Pacific Northwest Exposed
Along the Upper Dungeness Trail in the Buckhorn Wilderness. Olympic Mountains.
During the Battle of Chancellorsville in May 1863 Stonewall Jackson was brought to a Confederate field hospital next to the Wilderness Tavern. It was here that Jackson's left arm was removed.

There is something that will stir deep inside a person upon hearing the distinct bugle of a bull in the Autumn of the year... Its speaks of nature... it defines wilderness... and perhaps it best defines my being...
Alaska has millions of acres of wilderness, beautiful places that man has not altered as of yet. My wife and I love finding these places, unspoiled and photograph them to remember the beauty of the place. This photo, there are no mountains, but rather an alpine meadow and a small river running through it. We love being above the tree line where we can see for miles.

Not so much wilderness as many places we've visited, it's still a wild and wonderful part of untamed nature.
I took my ladies to the sea
we had just pressed the shells into our bones
and we saw the queen in the sky
gently revealing the treasures of her crowns
took off all of our Armour
Every last single drop of gold
And we banished the land
Lifted our bodies right up into the cold
Wilderness
In the darkest light
I call out to my brothers
come join me in flight
And the tears they did roll
from the salty sea, the rainy sky
and the wide eye, the wide eyes
My heart it did swell
As the grandest of stars burst out names in the skies
I can see but a thousand
of families and friends I have thought but long gone
And the thunder claps hands as I embrace them
And we held out to every single last word
Wilderness
in the darkest light
I call out to my brothers
come join me in flight

This is the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge in DeLeon Springs, Florida. The view is from the small observation tower. You have to walk about twice as far as the distance to the end of the water to get to this point, which is about halfway around the canal area. There are other areas, too, but usually when I've been there, it's either to hot or rainy, about to storm, or something else that has prevented me from exploring further. Where the water appears to end, there is another path that continues to the right, and I've been wanting to go down that way for some time. There are also areas that are more wooded, but I steer clear of them because there is a very good likelihood of running into a pygmy rattler or two!
About all the wildlife you really see here are buzzards and the occasional anhinga or egret, but I did spot an otter once. There's supposed to be a 14 ft. gator somewhere in there, and THAT I'd love to see, but not by myself or by surprise!
The Powderhorn Wilderness in Colorado is found in a rugged, glacier-carved landscape of the northern reaches of the San Juan Mountains. The area consists of large expanses of alpine tundra, spruce forests, and several alpine lakes at nearly 12,000 feet in elevation. Breathtaking views of the San Juan Mountains are available in this wilderness. Above 12,000 feet are two high-elevation plateaus that make up the largest relatively flat expanse of alpine tundra in the lower 48 states.
These plateaus were created by Teritary volcanic deposits believe to be 5,000 feet thick in some areas. The Cannibal Plateau, Devil's Lake, the Powderhorn Lakes, and Powderhorn Creek are also intriguing features. Visitors can explore more than 45 miles of trails within this area, including Powderhorn Lakes Trail, East Fork Trail, Powderhorn Park Trail, Middle Fork Trail, and Devil's Creek Trail.
Recreation activities include hiking, backpacking, camping, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, and photography.
