“The wilderness is the blank space
Where the minds can roam free
A canvas for us to paint our imagination
Happy minds devoid of any anxiety
Fresh breath of life in the empty space
Where do we take refuge if destroyed?
Wilderness is the bank space to treasure
Explore and find all the answers
For the unimaginative they have no relevance
Among the wilderness we embrace life... “

"Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread. A civilization which destroys what little remains of the wild, the spare, the original, is cutting itself off from its origins and betraying the principle of civilization itself.”
― Edward Abbey, Desert Solitaire

From our ride the other day we stopped and seen how much snow is left. I think we can go camping now for sure. Can't wait.

This area is one of the prime wilderness destinations in all of the Eastern Sierras. Of the many trails that begin near the town of Mammoth Lakes, the Agnew Meadows Trailhead leads hikers and backpackers to a multitude of beauty and solitude. The trailhead follows the Shadow Creek drainage, up to Shadow Lake. From there, hikers can choose to head towards Ediza Lake, Thousand Island Lake or Garnet Lake. Either of those choices will not disappoint, and will reward outdoor enthusiasts with arguably some of the most pristine vistas to be found anywhere in the wilderness.
If I could give one piece of advice, it would be; DO NOT forget mosquito repellant!

My ancestors wandered , lost in the wilderness for forty years because even in biblical times, men would not stop to ask for directions.
I LOVE nature, I love to get in touch with all the elements of great wilderness ... it is as if time were to stop giving me moments of intense and full of emotions ....

Wilderness (Afrikaans: Wildernis) is a seaside town on the Garden Route of the southern Cape in South Africa.
It is situated a short distance east from the city of George, on the N2 down the Kaaiman's River Pass. It is known for its long white sand beach and lagoons. The town caters mostly to holiday-makers and is situated directly on the Touw River Lagoon.
The town experiences an extremely mild climate, typical of the Garden Route and has little temperature variation, seldom dropping below 10 °C and above 28 °C, with year-round rainfall. The flora type is Afromontane gallery forest.
The Outeniqua Choo Tjoe steam train originally ran through the town en route between George and Knysna during its years of operation.
One of the wild places left on the west coast. Olympic backcountry. This was pretty much a view from my tent that night. (alright I had to get out to capture this scene).
Hope yopu enjoy this one,

This was a very peaceful sunset with water as still as glass and late enough in the year for the bugs to be pretty much gone. Splashes of fall colors start to dot the shoreline as Mount Adams glows and reflects at sunset in the high backcountry along a nameless lake.
Part of what is giving the nice glow to the mountain is the diffused light from a forest fire. I have another image from this trip on a different sunset night I will likely get to posting that has the mountain and surroundings all glowing reddish from the forest fire.

The trip around The Great Wilderness was formed around seeing this iconic view. The vista to the west from the summit of A'Mhaighdean alone was worth the hike, sleep deprivation and hunger (the latter due to underestimating the necessary calorie intake!). A Mhaighdean is regarded by many as the most remote of the Scottish Munros and getting here is no easy feat although many people manage! To the top left you can see Beinn Airigh Charr, where we spent the night before. Below from near to far are Dubh Loch and Fionn Loch. To the right is Beinn a' Chaisgein Mor with Sgurr na Laocainn below where we spent the following night. In the distance lies Poolewe on the northwest coast of Scotland where our hike began. The summit of A' Mhaighdean is the highest elevation of the Lewisian Gneiss

Here's another photo for Henri's set. ^_^ I think I have another photo to share before her Wilderness Explorer series ends. :) I haven't really sorted everything and I'm having a hard time choosing because almost all of her pose are similar. XD

The Wilderness Road was the principal route used by settlers for more than fifty years to reach Kentucky from the East. In 1775, Daniel Boone blazed a trail for the Transylvania Company from Fort Chiswell in Virginia through the Cumberland Gap into central Kentucky. It was later lengthened, following Native American trails, to reach the Falls of the Ohio at Louisville. The Wilderness Road was steep and rough, and it could only be traversed on foot or horseback. Despite the adverse conditions, thousands of people used it.
In 1792, the new Kentucky legislature provided money to upgrade the road. In 1796, an improved all-weather road was opened for wagon and carriage travel. The road was abandoned around 1840, although modern highways follow much of its route.

Finally, an opportunity to make a few images of this wild, wonderful place blanked is a covering of 6-8 inches of new powder. The trail to this vantage point had no tracks, birds, animal, nor man. The stillness, almost defining, yet so peaceful after a night of snowfall. Upon arrival a thick fog had moved in, obscuring the view beyond the edge of the cliff in the foreground. Determined to wait it out, I setup my equipment and waited while the fog ebbed and flowed in and out…for me a lover of wild and scenic places in North Carolina, it was worth the wait…
