Low-Cost Multi-point Interactive Whiteboards Using the Wiimote

For the purpose of the photo, I should have chosen my black one...

Do not mess with the wiimote gun... thing...

Wondering what to do with the packaging that your wiimote and nunchuck controller came in? Why not fill them with chocolate! We did.

They're both stuffed with sponge fingers to fill them out a little, otherwise we'd have used a lot more chocolate. Not a bad thing in itself, but we didn't have that much chocolate.

Bought these for $3. Also, the family having the yardsale was struggling pretty bad. Probably because they were buying this crap instead of saving money for harder times.

BACKSTORY: Got up around 7:15AM, made it out driving by 7:51 AM and went out until around 1:30PM for a total of 5 hours, 39 minutes. Spent $73.00 plus ~$7.98 gas for 41 miles of driving (15.1 mpg @ $2.94/G), for a total cost of $80.98. We drove to 64 yard sales, stopping at 22 (34%) of them. We made 49 purchases (50 items) for a total estimated value of $743.64, leading to a profit/savings of $662.66. So in essence, we multiplied our $80.98 investment by 9.18X. (Also, if you think about it, the profit counts for even more when you consider that we have to earn $~755 on the job, pre-tax, in order to take home the $662 in cash that we saved. How long does $662 of disposable income take to earn, vs the 5.65 hrs we spent here?) Anyway, this works out to a *post-tax* "wage" of $117.29/hr as a couple or $58.64/hr per person.

Free speakers & bubbles. At some point, I should get a switchbox and make these speakers battle against my current rear speakers, to see if they sound better... But it's a huge pain. And mounting these things from the ceiling would be tough. I should just accept my current dissatisfaction with my rear speakers ;)

Venue: Los Angeles Airport Marriott

Date: 2-4th January

Here's the first batch of photos from the amazing AnimeLA Convention at the start of the year. These were the ones that appeared in Bizarre Magazine's Party Pages (Issue 149).

Far East collided with the Wild, Wild West at the 5th Anniversary of Anime Los Angeles, by all accounts the biggest and brightest thus far of this young and still intimate event.

Over 3000 attendees decorated the hotel with a Kaleidoscope of cutesy kitty kung-fu, giant robot shine, fairy boot fashion and ninja assassin action. In a weekend of gaming, live music, guest panels, vendors, workshops and partying, how many conventions have you attended boasting a ‘Costume Repair Station?’ With over three quarters of fans in elaborate attire this was shrewd planning; the Cosplayers were in force, hair-gelled and displaying their regalia at the obligatory masquerade ball and turning the courtyard pool into a kickass photoshoot heaven.

Kudos to fans that hit the convention circuit the day after New Years, a testimony to a hardcore dedication that started this 2009 with Anime aplomb.

I should spend more time on *real* practice :)

have a great weekend, my friends !

Collaboration with my good friend Braqua

My entry into the Strobist Austin photo of the month contest - the theme is "Technology"

It took about a million takes to get this shot but I learned a lot. I am pretty happy with the commercial-ish look to this image, I'm going to upload it to a stock site like Photoshelter (so don't go spreading this all over the internet) =)

Strobist

1 umbrella above and to the right

I used 2 strobes, one with gels, firing in multi strobe mode fired from the hotshoe. The ungelled strobe was fired once from the pc sync as Dave said at a much higher power.

I used a Sigma Strobe for multi mode. The lovely hand model is me.

'The Controller', available now at the Hipp Store.

Wiimote not included. :)

I wanted to make some 3D mosaics like Bricks Noir, I guess this isn't really a mosaic but rather in the mosaic style, though it was still very difficult to get the round parts to look right. I used photoshop to compare the model with a photo, to make sure everything was just right.

Expect more LDD from me soon.

TK479: "Are we supposed to tidy up all this stuff?"

TK455: "That was not in the original contract."

I think this picture is better seen large. On the other hand, the large version doesn't have all the links to the original pictures.

Stormtroopers 365 > Day 365/365

- The End -

> 'Stormtroopers 365' prints available this way

These are pixel art paintings of one of the Super Mario World bonus games . These were Andrew's christmas present, although I didn't finish them in time. The company I work for just went out of business, so I've been pretty disheartened and unmotivated to do much of anything artsy lately : \

I painted a few of the items taking up the entire 8x8" canvas, and others where they were half-way in the canvas so it looks like a screen shot of them spinning. I'm really not sure how many people will understand the image I was trying to go for, but it's okay :3

There are 9 panels, each canvas measures 8x8"...I rested one of our wiimotes above the Starman in the bottom right corner so you could get a better understanding of how big this piece is.

Acrylic on stretched canvas. I used a flat-head brush to try my best to paint straight lines...I'm not much of a painter honestly, I think it's one of the mediums I'm very uncomfortable and unfamiliar with. I think these took about 6-10 hours total, I'm really not sure. I was being extra lazy with them and spanned the progress over the period of 2 days.

The FireFlowers' leaves are green, but in this photo the lighting is so terrible that they look black or a very dark green : \

They're all above our couch in our livingroom : )

Fun little build, took around half an hour last night.

After the day we had yesterday (click yesterday’s FUTAB for that story.) Sheri and I needed to rest and relax. We decided to go out into the world and get all of our weekly chores completed early. First we did laundry, then went to Target for household goods and then to Trader Joe’s for the grocery shopping. It was a nice time away from home. Trader Joe’s even had their chicken gyoza which have been absent for a good 6-7 months. We’re very happy to have those in our house again. They are probably our most favorite item in the whole store.

After putting everything away, Sheri decided to play a little Wii. We just got Mario Party 8 on Thursday and had not put much time into it. I noticed the lid to the Gummy Bear jar was open when I went to grab a Wii remote. Sure enough I look on the floor next to the bookshelf and I see a couple of Gummy Bear’s waddling underneath the TV stand.

I did not bother, just let them go about their business like I do for the most part. Sat at the computer and started doing stuff online. A few minutes later I heard some noise near the coffee table. The little guys were climbing up one of the legs and onto the table. They kept looking at the TV and then at Sheri, giggling to themselves, jumping up and down. Very excited were they. I could tell they wanted to play. I figured, why not. I mean it is a party game after all. I walked over and grabbed another a Wii remote and set it down on the table and you know what? They actually were able to get it up, problem is, they couldn’t move or they would all topple over. They gave it their all though. You have to give them some credit for trying :D

fun little build, took around half an hour last night.

If you're trying to reach me, this is why

I haven't been answering the phone. haha :^D

(I'm surprised I even took a long enough break

to take this photo and upload it.)

This is a lot more of what I wanted this to be...

Done in photoshop

Used two filters on different layers with different opacities

A couple watercolor brushes

Different layers for each brush (foreground and background)

and a LOT of time for detail

That'll teach me to be a little too enthusiastic with the Wiimote...

(Deutsche Beschreibung weiter unten)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My very first digital camera modded to take infrared shots. Since the camera is relatively unspectecular, I shot a HDR and created this creepy look with Topaz Psycho.

The mod is easy and costs 0$.

In most cameras, the IR-filter is placed directly in front of the sensor. In this camera it is a glass, approx 10mm*10mm with a greenish shine on it.

Simply removing this glass would not work, because the glass influences the focus point and without, the autofocus would not work anymore.

So I used a knife to scratch away the coating and placed the glass back in place.

When you open a camera, take extra care about the flash, getting shocked is no fun! I got shocked anyhow and a friend of mine throwed away the camera while being shocked and ended with a burn...

This mod opens the world to near infrared light photography. This means you don't see warm temperature (far infrared) but nature definitely looks different. I added some 940nm filters (from a Wiimote) to choose between infrared-only and photos taken with infrared+visible light (what I prefer).

Check the comments for example shots.

Thanks for looking!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wasn't able to include his iPod touch because he took it with him to work this morning - so it's just an empty box there. The Mario sticker is courtesy of my friend, Kaeru. The iPod shuffle was part of the "uniform" at work, when I was still on the retail side of the Carbon Computing. I was a bit bored one day and put the label maker to good use.

No longer with us: his old iBook and iPod mini, his XBox 360.

daniel and jessica doing their version of the television commercials for the nintendo wii. daniel received one of the nearly-impossible-to-get systems as a gift for his birthday, yesterday.

for those who haven't seen it, here's the actual wii commercials.

The next Zelda game will have Link riding a Wiimote, and have another Wiimote as a weapon. This is all to "help stimulate immersion" Says Miyamoto.

Guess what I got for my birthday :)

My sister and I have been playing nonstop since this weekend. We're still pretty sucky at it, but we're improving XD

I even downloaded some songs from GH Tunes. I love Caramelldansen and Canon Rock. I can only play in Medium though. And my hands start to hurt after a while XD

Ezra told me this photo reminds her of Yui's album cover. I'm not that familiar with her songs but I love "Tomorrow's Way", so I chose it for my title.

Thanks Ez for taking the photo and for lending me your sleeve thingies XD

Cool novelty ornaments are a staple of my family's Christmas, so I thought it'd be fun to show off some of my favorites! There's a good ol' classic Santa, a goldfish, a watermelon slice, a Wiimote, a retro Santa robot, BB-8, and of course, a Luigi (which is actually new this year)!

Do you guys have any cool ornaments hanging on YOUR tree? Tell me in the comments, or post a photo of your own!

Et c'est le draaaame...

Et aujourd'hui c'est surtout la sortie nationale (en France en tout cas) de The Lapins Crétins : Retour vers le Passé ! A vos wiimotes

HURRAH! I managed to hold out for almost a year and not buy a wii, but with Mario Galaxy just over 2 weeks away, I had to get one. I got mine from amazon france as the UK is pretty sparse on the wii front at the mo. I ordered on Monday evening and it arrived today (wednesday), sweet speed!
