This was one of those days when we went out to find some new photographic locations, but ended up with next to nothing to show for it because of the mainly horrendous weather. One short break in the otherwise overcast gloom came on the GWML at Waltham.
50046 is pictured here heading for Paddington on what I'd guess was an ex-Oxford service.
The erstwhile "Ajax" spent another 3 years hauling people around the NSE before withdrawal came in February 1992. She was cut up in relatively quick time, being despatched to the great station in the sky by June the same year. RIP.
Class 52 D1054 Western Governor is at maximum permitted speed as he sweeps through Waltham St Lawrence hauling a Plymouth - Paddington train.
The stock was arranged so that First Class was at the front, nearest the barriers in Paddington. Unfortunately that meant that the passengers travelling first had to endure 'bashers' making their way through to lean out of the front window to get the sound and fumes...that is until they were removed by a gripper and returned to second class.
The day was scorching and by this time, early afternoon, the sun was almost unbearable, 7th July 1975.

We've been going to the pub here occasionally for 5 years. This is the first time we'd been to the church. The church-ladies who were doing a gorgeous embroidery in the foyer, thought that was very funny!
