Another choice. The road has 6 switchbacks, while to the right, a footpath cuts through the noise. Sometimes it's nice to catch my breath, other times it's nice to be fast.
I have described this neighborhood as being ideal for Japanese Hobbits. I don't even know why this makes sense, but it does to everyone who walks here. (The walk happened to work out in a way that we won't see many of the houses, but they're lovely, precarious, and perfectly fitted to their environment.)

Many undergrads live in dorms to the left, and complain about having to trek up the grassy hill in the background. Where were they 1500 steps ago?
One corner of the Jewish section of the cemetery, and a wide swath of the Christian portion. I've seen deer and woodchucks here, but they were well-hidden this morning, shying away from the gardeners with weedwhackers.
A choice. Bus stop at the bridge. Steep walk to the left. Walking today. I try to walk at least once a week, depending on weather--it's Wednesday and the second day I've walked this week. A bit muggy for late September, but survivable.
There's a gap in the trees lining the walking path here, and I always stop a moment to look at the water. It's much farther down than the camera makes it look; I started out at about the same altitude as the water but the last two hundred steps have been steeply uphill.
The path curving along the water on the left is yet another way to get to work, but the path's a bit crumbly. I prefer the safer way.
Balcony just outside my office. 20 more steps to get to my desk. Fairly empty for 8am; during finals week there will be kids everywhere.
Chose to take the less steep route through the cemetery rather than continuing to follow the ridge.
The walk to campus is short enough that I often see other folks, but is steep enough that it's still peaceful.
A bit of water through the trees, and the concrete handrail preventing falls.
Two weeks ago there were too many leaves on the trees to see this much here.
