I went for a walk with the kids last night into the city centre via the river Nene....not an urban shot, but hey, I can't resist a boat trip on calm waters...

Recently, I found that I wanted to take urban shots of one kind or another. This was taken in a tunnel in downtown Toronto near the basketball arena. The image is one of many I have been taking in this vein. The idea here is to show a dynamic character of the city as much as possible. The image is processed for contrast, colour saturation, and a few other ways as well. I hope you like the result.

A little break for my holiday shots. I had the urge to post some urban shots! So here is one taken during a great night outing with local flicker buddies Vedd and Ariffin last December in Kuala Lumpur.

You all know that I steer clear of anything naturey/landscapey usually, but occasionally I break the rule....
It's a shot of the sun, straight out of camera, setting behind deep mist above the horizon late in the evening.
The colours are untouched. I particuarly like how the gradient of the sky from deep orange to blue, is inverted on the glowing sun.

I do not know about you but the majority of my pics from the holidays are far from the street even by philosophy;-) May be that is what the holidays are for:-) Hope you would not be offended to see a few more "post cards";-) Also a few urban shots might crop in before i come back to London stuff.

I was planning to post possibly a couple more shots from the lake, and then shift to some urban shots of my home town of Winnipeg but the colour in this shot was too enticing ... so I had to post now. I'll get back to Canada posts after. :-)
Saturation boost with a strategic placement of a black control point in Capture NX and voila ...
Another go at steel wool, saw a lot of examples online where urban shots where it works best in tunnels etc. so we tried out a few in the woods to see if that worked at all!

Happy Hump day everyone! A few more days and it’s the weekend. I wanted to change the pace a bit and step away from the urban shots.
I took this last summer while up at Lake George in New York State on a boat ride.

Taken en-route to Westminster Bridge for sunset, we skirted St James Park and were lucky enough to see this backlit swan and her babies. We couldn't stop for long so I'm really pleased with this, not least because it makes a nice contrast to the more 'urban' shots I spent the rest of the 24hr photoshoot taking.
I've now published the Google Map discussed earlier in the week, many of my urban shots are on it, if you swing by my infrequently updated blog, the link is there :-)
