{old... old/new #twotakes}
Old conjures up an amount of 'use' for me. Yes, there are plenty of objects out there that have endured a lot of use, but for me, people that have endured are far more interesting. Old is not a physical condition in my mind, it's a heaviness that one wears from the battles of life. I know many people who are old in years, but 'new' in spirit and wonder. And I know some young kids who wear the weight of life far beyond their tender age. I respect the scars of enduring, and the wisdom that ensues. Our culture is one of the few that have so little reverance for those that have walked a long path. This homeless man was condescended, ignored, and treated with little respect by the tourists that passed him in the freezing cold Santa Fe night. I stood a good distance from him and listened to him play his flute. He told his story by way of music, his breathless fluidity floated towards the stars... it was heartbreaking and magical at the same time. I recognized him as a healer, and walked away from that experience humbled and blessed.

I was buying tofu at the nearby market... looking inward at this woman's stall; a nap making her look like a swan.

as we approach the ending of a journey (within the journey), we hold on to the lessons we've learned and then surrender and let go to another beginning.

My husband and I are 20 years old. But this moment right now, right here, is new. That's his coffee (so not a coffee guy) and it's rare we spend mornings like this together because of the nature of his work; super late nights for the mister who is an awesome drummer. his latest addiction is biking - that's new! It brings him such bliss.

I love this mirror bird. I love the way it seems as if I released her from the itouch and she stretched, and arched in sweet delight and spread her wings to fly.
This is by far the best bathroom I've been to in a cafe. It had its own speakers; the clear sound of water, a river passing through rocks, bird song, and what sounded like a light breeze and the dancing and swaying of leaves brushing against each other. It gave this cozy space a sense of calm and a sense of cleansing. Great, right? Brick wall, pebbles in the sink (as filter), plants, little love notes, pretty birds everywhere, some lavender soap, a gentle and forgiving light so that when you look at yourself in the big and very clean mirrors it's not horrific and fluorescent white.
I can't believe I managed to remember what was painted in script on one wall:
"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" Matthew 6:26
I agree we shouldn't worry. At all. The simple Buddhist rule about worry is: Don't.
But I do not think we are more valuable than the birds or the ants... We are all held in equal value, each one with a purpose that serves another.
We were waking back to our car after having walked the Boston Freedom Trail and came across this fun sight!
I am not sure whether I just never noticed before, or whether this was the exception on this day, but the morning dew formed an individual drop on each blade of grass.
I noticed this great reflection of an old building in the hood of a shiny black Mercedes. I thought it was perfect for the old/new prompt.

In a tricycle, a display of old things, all dusty and gray; souvenirs, reminders, a token for luck, perhaps? Old superstitions. A mama Mary statue with faded colors takes center stage. A new sampaguita garland, always a new sampaguita garland, to renew old prayers, to renew faith. Its scent frames the phrase 'god bless us'. They wilt so fast in the heat.
{two takes:urban}
Welcome to your not so clean and orderly, funky, urban Manila, where you sometimes see so clearly the effects of urbanization; people are displaced, people live in boxes, people are constantly trying to make ends meet, people knowing no other life but this, people simply making a living. Here is your typical street vendor selling a variety of candies, biscuits, cigarettes, lighters, ballpens, water, colas, rags (yes rags for the jeepney drivers who constantly have to clean their windshield or dashboard or steering wheel from the oil, dust, pollution)... what else... oh, newspapers of course and even hair scrunchies. If you're lucky, the street vendor will have a cell phone and will be able to sell you call and text credits.
There it sits waiting for His Majesty, Bear. Most likely tossed aside after the kids were finished playing.
Some takes were difficult. It brought back old grief, of not being enough, not being seen or heard. A struggle within myself instead of acceptance. A feeling of being closed to myself. #twotakes #awareness #closed

Then said Christian, What is thy name ? Is it not the same bythe which I have called thee? Demas. Yes, my name is Demas; I am the son of Abraham. Chris. I suddenly remembered my Color Cards from the class, Colour! Or is it Color?, that I took at Big Picture Classes with Nic Howard! The typed cards were created by Nic for the class. I added my photos. I used my local country setting as the theme!
These are 6x12 in size so I put them into 12x12 frames in pairs and have them (4 frames together) hanging up in my technology/art studio. They're fun and cheerful!
Not a lot of wind this day, but a beautiful bright blue sky. I'll take that over a gray one any time.
I love Grand Central Terminal. It's a madhouse here today, people going east, going west. I'm always serene in this spot because I know it so well, since 1981. If any of you come to NYC, make this a destination to take pictures.

in the end, when things come to a close, remain open.
just as in the beginning you are open.
ending or beginning, open to possibilities.
letting go is an act of opening.
Watching the boys at a friend's house, I couldn't leave without getting a picture of this lovely, intentional list.
I love my CT beach. Horse allowed. This man cracked me up, making sure his dog got exercise too! I live on this beach street, I desire to walk on the sand more often.

This is my CT beach. I commute into NYC for work, but enjoy this on weekends and at night. I used to live in NYC full-time (since '81) but love having both in my life today. If I had to pick one.....
Taking the escalator up. In the old days, after WOII, many people used this escalator for commuting. I saw photos with two rows of people on one escalator going up, with their bikes. All four escalators were in use back then. Nowadays there aren't that many people that use the tunnel and we aren't that couragous anymore. Some people find these escalators scary and take the elevator. Hey, do you know that my bike is as old as the tunnel? :-D #twotakes @ Fietstunnel Maastunnel Noordzijde
