The Two-tailed Pasha (Charaxes jasius), aka Foxy Emperor!

Looking forward to seeing the second brood of these over in Spain in September. Plus Monarchs, African Tigers etc etc!

Still time to join Geoff Simpson and me for that, see details here....

Wildlife

Like large wild animals congregating around a waterhole, so this butterfly and the little beetles and a fly are sharing from a nectar tap on a branch. This was a close as I could get as the branch was quite high, and this is the only Foxy Charaxes I saw whilst in Africa. Alternative common names: Foxy Emperor, Koppie Charaxes, Koppie Emperor and Two-tailed pasha. I believe this info to be correct.

Two-tailed pasha (Charaxes jasius)

One of the most exotic butterfly species in Europe. As soon as I spotted this one, I started chasing it around until I got satisfying captures. Luckily, although I scared it off lots of times, it kept coming back to perch on the wooden bench. So at last (hence the title of the photo) I managed to get this shot with its wings open! Don't miss the other photo of the underside of the wings, too.

We saw loads of butterflies on our holiday in Greece, some (like this) we've never seen before.

More shots below - the last isn't a great shot but the only one that shows the inside of its wings.

I'm stampolina and I love to take photos of stamps. Thanks for visiting this pages on flickr.

I'm neither a typical collector of stamps, nor a stamp dealer. I'm only a stamp photograph. I'm fascinated of the fine close-up structures which are hidden in this small stamp-pictures. Please don't ask of the worth of these stamps - the most ones have a worth of a few cents or still less.

By the way, I wanna say thank you to all flickr users who have sent me stamps! Great! Thank you! Someone sent me 3 or 5 stamps, another one sent me more than 20 stamps in a letter. It's everytime a great surprise for me and I'm everytime happy to get letters with stamps inside from you!

thx, stampolina

For the case you wanna send also stamps - it is possible. (...I'm pretty sure you'll see these stamps on this photostream on flickr :) thx!

If not for one of the workers at the exhibit I would never have seen this very colorful specimen. thanks to some recent research I have learned that it is a Two Tailed Pasha.

On our recent holiday in Italy, we went for a walk along Via Sperlonga which runs through the countryside along the hillside above Vico Equense. It was sunny and there was an incredible abundance of butterflies around - skippers, blues and others. We saw this big one resting up in an olive tree and I was lucky to get a shot of it. I had absolutely no idea what it was until getting back home and checking the old books! Anyway, it's (apparently) a two-tailed pasha and much bigger than a geranium bronze :)
