Petrovaradinska tvrđava, izuzetno ostvarenje fortifikacijskog graditeljstva XVIII veka, predstavlja jedno od najsloženijih, najvećih i najbolje očuvanih artiljerijskih bastionih utvrđenja ovog dela Evrope.

Senj (pronounced [sɛ̂ːɲ]) (Italian: Segna, Latin: Senia, German: Zengg) is an old town on the upper Adriatic coast in Croatia, in the foothills of the Mala Kapela and Velebit mountains.

The symbol of the town is the Nehaj Fortress (Croatian: Tvrđava Nehaj) which was completed in 1558. For a time this was the seat of the Uskoks (Italian: Uscocchi), who were Christian refugees from Ottoman Bosnia resettled here to protect the Habsburg borderlands. The Republic of Venice accused the Uskoks of piracy and declared war on them which led to their expulsion following a truce in 1617.

Senj is to be found in the Lika-Senj County of Croatia, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gospić-Senj and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Rijeka.

The fortress was the site of Croatian dukes and kings in 9th century. In middle ages Croatian soldiers "uskoci" tried to defend this region from invasion of Turks and Venetians. Turkish army conquered the fortress in the year 1537. There were many battles for this fortress, mostly unsuccessful, until 1648, when Turks had to retreat when Venetians won one of the battles in Cretan war.

a medieval fortress, located on the east side of Tara National Park. The fortress dates from 14-15th century, its basis is trapezoidal with two entrances. Solotnik was ruined in the same century by the Ottoman invaders, between 1459 and 1466. Archaeologists have discovered fragments of pottery, iron tools, stone cannonballs, swords and crossbows.

If you approach the fortress from this side, it seems it was easy to conquer, but from the other sides the access is not so easy...

Senj (Latin Senia or Segnia, Greek Attienities (Αθυινιτες), German Zengg, Hungarian Zeng and Italian Segna) is the oldest town on the upper Adriatic, and it was founded in the time before the Romans some 3000 years ago (Senia) on the hill Kuk. It was the center of the Illyrian tribe Iapydes. The current settlement is situated at the foot of the slopes Mala Kapela and Velebit. The symbol of the town, the Fortress Nehaj (Croatian: Tvrđava Nehaj), that is found on the hill Nehaj, was completed in 1558, and has since then been the seat of the Uskoci until they were banished from the town in the 1617 after the Habsburg Monarchy made peace with the Republic of Venice. Senj is now found in the Lika-Senj County, and is also included in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gospić-Senj, and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Rijeka within the Catholic Church.
