Tunnel connector under the National Gallery in Washington DC

Posted for Fence Friday

This was taken last September on our Eastern Washington road trip.We had to see what was on the other side of the tunnel....

In the Copenhagen Metro system, there is no driver. The view going through the tunnel is pretty cool.

Here’s a photo taken from inside one of several brick tunnels that are built into the walls of Detroit’s historic Fort Wayne, constructed between 1842 and 1851. The image provides a view of the original barracks building, which was built using Lake Erie limestone.

While Fort Wayne has never seen a shot fired in combat, it has served over the years as a primary induction center for Michigan troops in every U.S. conflict, from the Civil War to Vietnam. Today, it is operated as a museum and historical site. Though some parts of the 96-acre complex are in serious disrepair, the fort is host to various events, including a Civil War reenactment that I attended this past weekend. It’s hard to see here, but there is a regiment of Union reenactors standing at attention and saluting in front of the barracks building.

Taken from inside one of the many tunnels on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This tunnel is on the higher elevation where the color was past it's peak when we were there, so I processed it in mono.

I've been working a lot this past week but now I'm off for 5 days and I'm excited to get outside, see some friends and have some fun. Happy hump day y'all. :-))

The Tunnel View scenic overlook is a historic site located adjacent to Wawona Road. This overlook affords expansive views of Yosemite Valley, El Capitan, Bridalveil Falls, and Half Dome that have captured the awe of visitors for nearly 75 years. The overlook was constructed in 1932 during an era that heralded a boom in design and development throughout the National Park Service, and helped initiate the National Park Service “rustic design style.” Wawona Tunnel and Tunnel View were determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 because of their exemplary design. Very little physical change has occurred to Tunnel View’s physical features (including rockwork, circulation patterns, and configuration) since it was built in 1933. The site remains one of the most popular scenic overlooks in Yosemite National Park. Tour buses, tram tours, and single-family vehicles bring an estimated five to seven thousand people to the site per day during the height of the tourist season.

Here is an image from Cape Kiwanda, one of my favorite beaches on the Oregon Coastline. I spent the better half of Saturday scrambling around the sand dunes in the beautiful warm weather. The winds were also gusting pretty decent so climbing the large sand dunes multiple times was literally real sand shower! The sky was pretty clear so unfortunately there was no real “epic” opportunity for sunset, so I pretty much played around in the Tunnel and Key Hole.

While walking around looking for birds, saw this tunnel through the fall foliage. More of my style! I origally thought the red leaves were maple but they are very large leaved oak, never seen this colour or size on an oak before!

Shot with the Olympus E-5 inside the bowels of the Hoosac Tunnel.

Several tunnel sections connect the villages Levanto and Bonnasola.

This is an old railway line which is today used for hikers and bycyclists.

Between each section, there is a view on the sea and little bays.

The tunnels are dark and moist.

Often it is dripping from the walls and the ceiling.

FILM+digital edit

Shot my first roll of film since I took a film/darkroom photography course in college 2 years ago. I had only messed around with a point and shoot prior to the class, so I learned the basics of photography through film. I think there are some benefits to starting out on film and then transitioning to digital... it sort of forces you to take more time and thought into composing the shot if you can't instantly see the end results. That being said, i'll probably choose to shoot digital 90% of the time for multiple reasons. But, i'm really happy with how this turned out so i'll have to do some more film experiments soon.

This is a recently opened tunnel that runs from Kings Cross underground to One Pancras Square. The walls change color of a regular basis and it's an impressive piece of architecture.

I know this is very cliche' shot, but I wanted to give it a try today. This is the tunnel underneath the runway in Roanoke. I wanted a vehicle in the vanishing point so I had to tick off other drivers to get the spacing right.... oh well :-D

The Thames Tunnel is an underwater tunnel, built beneath the River Thames in London, connecting Rotherhithe and Wapping. It measures 35 feet (11 m) wide by 20 feet (6 m) high and is 1,300 feet (396 m) long, running at a depth of 75 feet (23 m) below the river surface measured at high tide. It was the first tunnel known to have been constructed successfully underneath a navigable river, and was built between 1825 and 1843 using Thomas Cochrane and Marc Isambard Brunel's newly invented tunnelling shield technology, by him and his son Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

The tunnel was originally designed for, but never used by, horse-drawn carriages. It now forms part of the London Overground railway network

One of my favourite light painting tools at the moment is the lightflute CH48 from Denis Smith:

www.denissmith.com.au/lightflutes/

In this photo, I had two passes along the tunnel, with a cool and warm white Convoy S2+ as the light source, swapping over the light in-between passes. Of the four photos I took, I preferred this attempt as the lightflute waving was less symmetrical. Post processed from single RAW exposure (62 secs) in Adobe Lightroom 6.
