These 8 pictures were taken at the only tailing arbutus I know of. Each year I worry that there will be none left. THey are in the mossy edge that is dropping down above the trail. This year there were only 4 or 5 tiny "islands" of plants. In addition to this being a very pretty flower (when it has not weathered), it has a very pretty fragrance. Unfortunately to sniff it you have to wrap your nostril around one of the blossoms, and this year the ground was too fragile to do that.

A 30-second exposure.
View from the Bright Angel trail just below the second tunnel (visible in the upper right) as you head down into the Grand Canyon. This serpentine trail drops nearly one mile from the top of the South Rim to the river that carved out the canyon below.
This was taken the other evening while hiking along the Gunpowder River in the state park. This trail was all snow covered and as I approached the tunnel that allows the trail to pass safely under the highway above, the lighting from the tunnel was blending into the blue hour scene. This about an hour after sunset and the snow stopped. The sky was full of clouds too, so even in the 'dark' there was enough light to walk the trail without a flashlight.
Without the snow, this would have been a much darker scene.
Cold autumn day on the brand new Trolley Trail in Glenburn, Pa. This section is the just start of many miles to come. I enjoyed this first 3 mile section very much and can't wait to bike it as they extend it.
hiking the hieroglyphic trail the day after the snow...still a dusting left on Mt Superstition in the distance
Part of Arizona 88 or The Apache Trail. Really scenic. Notice the part where the guard rail was torn out by some speeding moron?
I toodle along these kinds of roads at 20-25mph, taking in the scenery. Oh yes, I pull over when there is a pullout to let the crazies pass me.
