Perched on a hill above the village of Llanarthne, Paxton’s Tower looks out on the Towy Valley. Built over 200 years ago, the majestic tower is in fact a folly built in memorial to Admiral Lord Nelson and to impress the people of the valley.

Paxton's Tower is a Neo-Gothic folly situated near Llanarthney in the Towy Valley, Carmarthenshire. It was built between 1805 and 1808 and built in honour of Lord Nelson. Black and White version

River Towy Carmartshire

River Towy Carmarthenshire Wales.

This lovely beach is situated on the western side of the Tywi / Towy Estuary. I say it is a beach but apparently the tourist board won’t call it one and insist it is referred to as an estuary. The sand is fine and golden, becoming much firmer towards the sea - ideal for sandcastles.

Llansteffan beach is overlooked to the west by the ruins of the Norman Llansteffan Castle.

Never been very good at photographing trees, but I like this one.

Looking down on the bad flooding in South Wales after Storm Callum. Many rivers burst their banks.

A dry day yesterday so had a trip to Carmathenshire to take photos of castles. This is the Towy Valley where the river Towy has burst its banks due to all the torrential rain we have had. Please don't feel you have to comment as I uploaded a lot of shots!

Taken at Dryslwyn Castle, Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire. It is thought the castle was built in approx 1220 so although it is in ruins now as certainly lasted the test of time!

Taken from Dryslwyn Castle looking down on the Towy River and valley. I was hoping for some nice mist but sadly not to be. Taken in November 2020 during a brief respite from lockdown.

Caerfyrddin/ Carmarthen

A shot of Paxton's Tower taken on my day out in Carmarthenshire last Monday. The tower can be seen across the Towy Valley from Dryslwyn Castle. Some info regarding it - "Paxton's Tower is a Neo-Gothic folly that can be seen for miles from many areas situated on a hilltop near Llanarthney in the Towy Valley. It was built sometime between 1805 and 1808 and erected in honour of Lord Nelson and probably to a design by Samuel Pepys Cockerell. "
