It's small but special.
Guess I'm channeling cozy blanket feelings too with the thumb. Oh well.
The Rogue Players are using Towel Day as their theme. In honor of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Mini towel is item collected from Comic Con when the movie can out.
Monday May 25th is also Geek Pride day.
*Things you may not know about me and today's random fact:
I'm a closet geek. Well not that secret really. Ok. I love Star Wars. My brother swears that my sis and I ruined some of his original toys. Also it's possible the 1st movie I ever saw in a theater was SW as an infant. He says I cried through it. I like to say Darth Vader scared me. :P
Somewhere in storage are childhood Halloween photos of us dressed as Darth and Lea. (from SW not Return of the Jedi -Lea)
Even watched Return of the Jedi on tv the other night.
Vernissage, readings, Live-DJ and quiz TODAY 11pm SLT
I will be reading a chapter from my WIP 'Worlds Rising: Rebellion' (in English!) at 12pm SLT
HHGTTG / H2G2 - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is one of my all time favourite science fiction films/books. Marvin is a Paranoid Android aboard the starship Heart of Gold. The film is based on a book by Douglas Adams.
I Love this toy I tried to recreate Marvins depression, frustration and boredom in the shot.
"The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has a few things to say on the subject of towels.
A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitch hiker can have. Partly it has great practical value — you can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble‐sanded beaches of Santraginus Ⅴ, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a mini raft down the slow heavy river Moth; wet it for use in hand‐to‐hand‐combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or to avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (a mindbogglingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you — daft as a bush, but very ravenous); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough."

It is Towel Day today - so I finally can do my Douglas Adams shot.
EDIT: I went back over the picture after I found a nice window to use with it - grounds it way better I think

Today is Towel Day.
Towel Day is an annual celebration on the 25th of May, as a tribute to the late author Douglas Adams (1952-2001). On that day, fans around the universe proudly carry a towel in his honour. The commemoration was first held in 2001, two weeks after Adams' death on May 11, 2001.
A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-boggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.

Greetings from a Hitchhiker!
Day 145 If you know The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, you'll understand. If not, go read the book or watch the film. I'm not explaining it.
When I first saw Cyn's Portrait of a Woman in a Red Turban, it was so close to the work of Jan van Eyck, that I recognized the influence immediately. I was, in fact, astounded that I not only recalled the name, but also the painting after a couple of decades of not looking at the art history books on my shelves. Cyn's work is exactly what Van Eyck would have created if he had the tools of a modern photographer.
So in honor of cynthiak, I decided to do my own take on the man in a turban, and allow the old master who influenced me the most to shine through. I hope it is not to difficult to tell who that was. Oh, and for those that give a damn, this was SOOC, except for a 90 degree turn and an 8X10 crop.
Tuesday Truth: I've never read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Should I?
Strobist: AlienBee 800 with HOBD-W camera left. Triggered by Cybersync.

And you can now also make sushi rolls with your towels
Towel Day is celebrated every year on 25 May as a tribute to the author Douglas Adams by his fans. On this day, fans openly carry a towel with them, as described in Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, to demonstrate their appreciation for the books and the author.

after the washing is done I really get tired of folding the stuff; I wish by magic it would up and do this it's self
Douglas Adams was an imaginative writer.
But his writing quality declined as he became more successful.
And bitter. And frustrated. And wrapped in activism.
Still, it's nice to go back to the old stuff... the really old stuff.
And savor his wit and charm and whimsy.

This morning I walked on the treadmill.
My goal is to walk at least 15 minutes before and after work every day.
I'm seven in a row so far. Every opportunity since Monday morning.
I've increased the speed slightly, even if it's just a slow 1.5mph.
When it feels slow, I'll bump it up a bit more.
And at some point, I'll increase that to 20 minutes. Then 25. And then to 30.
I'm also trying to be good about the food I eat.
I know this won't last.
But for as long as I can keep this going, I will.
I have yet to put batteries in my scale.
I don't know what the numbers are right now.
Nor do I want to know, really.
I just want to set a pattern and maintain for now.
And I want to feel better.
At this point, even 15 minutes slow exhausts me and wears my calves out.
But it's better than nothing, and in time, I'll be able to progress to slightly faster pace.
So son numeros.
This morning's distraction was a Tracey Morgan Netflix special.
I never found 30 Rock amusing.
Alec Baldwin is a pompous hypocrite. Tina Fey is a shrill harpy.
Tracey Morgan is a blubbering stereotype.
I liked Alec's podcast because of his guests, not him.
You know, just like I mute Saffia Widdershins and listen to her guests at SLB events.
Although I'm probably not going to do much SLB anything.
I don't even feel like shooting the builds, really.

Last night was really nice.
I sat outside for a while.
I didn't lay back in my lounger, though.
All the flowers on the jasmine are gone.
The next few days will be hotter.
In fact, I think we'll be out of the decent temperatures until October or so.
Day 1511 (Day 51 Year 5 ) Yep, It's my 4th year of Towel Day and a tribute to Douglas Adams and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
This was my towel day
And of course it "bares" repeating.
The Book: It is of course well known that careless talk costs lives, but the full scale of the problem is not always appreciated. For instance, at the very moment that Arthur Dent said "I wouldn't want to go anywhere without my wonderful towel," a freak wormhole opened up in the fabric of the space-time continuum and carried his words far far back in time across almost infinite reaches of space to a distant Galaxy where strange and warlike beings were poised on the brink of frightful interstellar battle. The two opposing leaders, resplendent in their black jewelled battle shorts, were meeting for the last time, when, a dreadful silence fell, and, at that very moment, the words, "I wouldn't want to go anywhere without my wonderful towel" drifted across the conference table. Unfortunately, in their native tongue, this was the most appalling insult imaginable, so the two opposing battle fleets decided to settle their few remaining differences in order to launch a joint attack on our galaxy, now positively identified as the source of the offending remark. For thousands of years the mighty starships tore across the empty wastes of space and finally dived screaming on to the planet Earth - where, due to a terrible miscalculation of scale, the entire battle fleet was accidentally swallowed by a small dog. Those who study the complex interplay of cause and effect in the history of the Universe say that this sort of thing is going on all the time. ~~~The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Today is international Towel day, in honour of Douglas Adams - easily one of my favourite authors.
TRF: This Red Bandanna was bought for me by my best friends mom about 15 years ago. He wanted one (his was blue) but felt like a tool being the only one with a bandanna. So his mom bought one for me too. It has never seen the light of day till now.

if you live in Club Marazul - you need to ask for it in Spanish: "Sin cabeza y sin pie" Translation: no head; no feet. Oh , and Gracias.
Club Marazul was a Club Hotel for French Tourists on the Island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. There was a tiny grocery in the building that was serviced by Canarians who spoke Spanish and French. Sadly, I only spoke English. I lived here for about a year and one of my neighbors finally helped me to purchase one of the gorgeous looking chickens they had at the butcher - but I had no cleaver, so I never thought I could purchase one. It was one of those moments that I learned "ask and ye shall receive".
The club towel has been with me since 1984.
FGR - Towel Day
Well today has been a beautiful day out, but I definitely could do without all of the cicadas flying around..blech..I think they are gross. They are rampant this year, here in this part of NC and it is all you hear around here is the constant humming of them during the day. It isn't like the pretty sound that crickets make..it is a sound that gets irritating after awhile, lol. :D Anyway, here is my addition to today's FGR challenge of Towel Day. I have never seen or read Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so I am not too sure if this keeps with the theme..but I hope it does. it is my favorite beach towel, because it has Betty Boop on it. My husband bought it for me at Universal Studios in Florida, when we all went on vacation there a few years ago now. We had just gotten off of this ride that we rode more than once that was like a white water rapids type of ride..it was awesome. :D
I'm no Strag - I've got my towel ready for Galaxy HitchHiking! So long, and thanks for all the fish......
for Flickr Group Roulette - Towel Day / Tribute to Douglas Adams' "A HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy"
This a tribute to Douglas Adams, one of my favourite writer.

At my parents farm - about as different a landscape as the one I left in Canada as you could imagine. Flat and empty and nothing as far as the eye can see.
I thought I'd go out and try and get a silhouette photo on the road, but the pup decided to come too, and it all ended up being a game of chase the towel, bite the towel, and hold on to the towel for as long as possible.

consigo a toalha.
"A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. [...] What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with."

BTW our wedding date is 10.10.10, because this binary translates to decimal as a number 42. How nerdy are we? ;)
