Last year, I had the pleasure of partnering with a fantastic group of people called Icing Smiles. Icing Smiles is a non-profit organization that provides custom celebration cakes to families impacted by the critical illness of a child. I am THRILLED to share with you my very first Icing Smiles contribution. I wish that I could make an Icing Smiles cake every week! Happy Birthday Riley and Angel!

"Barbi's world turned upside down in November of 2009 when her daughter Riley was diagnosed with 3 brain tumors. The tumors cause seizures and Riley's big sister is her guardian angel when the seizures start. Appropriately, her name is Angel. The largest of Riley's tumors in inoperable so they are unsure as to their course of treatment. In the meantime, they are going to celebrate every day with Riley as the gift that it is. Riley & Angel both celebrated their birthdays in January and Mary Katherine created a cake the girls could only dream of and we could not be more proud of.

This is why we do what we do..., "I just wanted to thank you so much for everything you've done. All Riley did was smile all day long. Her face when she saw the cake was just priceless! Her and Angel were so proud for all of their friends to see it. Mary Kathrine did an incredible job and the cake was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. Thank you so much for this! I'm so glad that we were blessed enough to meet Mary Kathrine and find out about your company. It's incredible how a cake can make a family forget about all the problems in life and worries of tomorrow for a little while." (from Barbi) via Icing Smiles

I was recently asked to make a Surprise Baby Shower cake in a Tinkerbell theme.

Seeing as one of my best friends is having a baby, my dreams were a mish-mash of mauve, babies and fairies! Hence, this is the design I came up with

A gluten free chocolate cake with layers of light chocolate, caramel and vanilla buttercreams.

Egg free, nut free and gluten free

30th birthday cake for Joanne who was having a fancy dress themed party. She and her two lovely daughters were going to be dressed up as Tinkerbell.

Tinkerbell cake (Dolly Varden style)

Theme: Tinkerbell

Cake: Chocolate mud

Filling: Chocolate ganache

Finish: Rows and rows of graduated colour, hand frilled and veined petals.

Decorations: Hand made from fondant. Tinkerbell is a toy

This is the cake I created for my daughter's Tinkerbell party. It is the house that Lizzy from the Great Fairy Rescue makes for the fairies.

Base is 8" double stacked double jaffa mudcake. The roof is a 10" carved raffaelo mud cake.

Everything is edible except Tinkerbell. I didn't attempt to make her as my daughter really wanted the doll.

Top tier is carrot cream cheese and bottom is vanilla almond fudge. The centerpieces of the party had sunflowers so Tink is sitting in a sunflower field. Bottom tier is a garden

I call the flavor of this cake "Death by Chocolate". The cake was 4 layers of triple chocolate cake filled with Ghirardelli fudge and chocolate mousse, then frosted with chocolate buttercream.

This magnificent two-tiered Tinkerbell cake is crafted after a DebbieDoesCakes design. We used our delicious sugar cookies for a base of petals. It is iced in jewel toned fondant with scrollwork in different colors around each tier. Individual blades of grass, hand-sculpted out of fondant, act as borders for the top tier while yellow fondant stars randomly placed, make an appearance on the bottom tier. This specialty cake is sprayed with an edible pearl spray to make every detail sparkle.

This was Lily's Birthday CAke. It was half chocolate w/strawberry filling and half vanilla w/banana pudding. It was so good!

Made this for a coworker's daughter, who likes fairies and all things girly. :) I'm rather picky about the kind of doll I put in a cake, so I end up spending too much and negating my fee, lol, but this doll worked well in the cake (Rosetta from TInkerbell). The bottom layer is double chocolate, filled with chocolate buttercream. Flowers around edge are the method shown in the Whimsical Bakehouse book. Doll cake is covered with buttercream, using a Wilton leaf tip. I LOVE how the tip made the skirt look organic and plant-like. My only complaint on this one is that i wish I had made the change in color a little less subtle, carrying the lighter layers up a little more.

Cake - chocolate mudcake with dark chocolate ganache covered in fondant with modelling paste decorations. Tinkerbell made out of modelling paste. Cupcakes - Vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream and hand made modelling paste flowers
