Como muchas ciudades europeas, Oporto es una ciudad antigua que cuenta con un amplio patrimonio histórico, aunque durante las últimas décadas ha sido sometida a una amplia modernización. Cuenta con el metro más largo de Portugal que cubre no sólo el Centro, sino también zonas de su área metropolitana como Senhora da Hora o Maia. Asimismo, el aeropuerto internacional Sá Carneiro ha sido recientemente ampliado hasta alcanzar una capacidad de 16 millones de pasajeros anuales.

Fer-de-Lance is the first Nero Wolfe detective novel written by Rex Stout, published in 1934 by Farrar & Rinehart, Inc. The novel appeared in abridged form in The American Magazine (November 1934) under the title "Point of Death." The novel was adapted for the 1936 movie Meet Nero Wolfe. In his seminal 1941 work, Murder for Pleasure, crime fiction historian Howard Haycraft included Fer-de-Lance in his definitive list of the most influential works of mystery fiction.
The first Nero Wolfe mystery opens with a scene showing Nero Wolfe deciding to give up bootleg beer, and sending out Fritz to purchase every beer that can be purchased legally for him to select a replacement. The date set in the novel is given as June seventh, Wednesday, which makes the year 1933. The Cullen-Harrison Act had just became law on April 7, 1933 legalising "3.2 beer" (3.2% alcohol by weight, approximately 4% alcohol by volume), a point mentioned in passing in the novel.
While sampling the beers with Goodwin, none of which Nero Wolfe seems genuinely surprised to find is swill, Fred Durkin arrives and asks sheepishly if Wolfe would meet Maria Maffei, a friend of his wife for a case. Maria's brother, Carlo, a metal worker, was unemployed (it was during the Depression) and was supposed to return to Italy. He suddenly seemed to come into money, and then disappeared mysteriously. Impressed by Maria Maffei, Wolfe instructs Goodwin to make enquiries. Wolfe and Goodwin soon learn that Carlo's disappearance somehow involves the death of a college president while playing golf in Westchester County, New York.
Although the characters are not as fully developed as they would become later in the series, the essential characteristics of Wolfe, Archie, and several other regulars already are clearly present.
As the first novel in the series, Fer-de-Lance introduces Nero Wolfe, Archie Goodwin, Fritz Brenner, Saul Panzer, Fred Durkin, Orrie Cather and other characters who recur throughout the entire corpus. Its descriptions of Wolfe's Manhattan brownstone conflict with the established architecture set down by Stout in all subsequent novels and stories, so may be viewed as somewhat non-canonical. Likewise, the characters have slightly different personalities. Wolfe's manner of speaking is notably more baroque and long-winded than in later stories.
The story's title is the common name of Bothrops atrox, a venomous South American snake.[2] Fer-de-Lance is French for spearhead, literally iron of the lance.
Plot Synopsis:
Maria Maffei, a family friend of one of his sometime employees Fred Durkin, appeals to Wolfe to locate her missing brother Carlo, a metalworker. Wolfe, affected by the Depression, decides to take the job, although it is unappealing to him. Archie locates Anna Fiore, a girl who listened in on a phone call Carlo received at his boarding-house. Wolfe learns from her that Carlo had clipped a story from a copy of the New York Times about the sudden death (apparently by stroke) of Peter Oliver Barstow, president of Holland College. Before Wolfe makes any more progress, Carlo Maffei is found stabbed in the back in the countryside. His sister says she will pay Wolfe to find his killer, so he keeps working.
The Murder:
Barstow dropped dead on the golf course - heart attack, said his doctor . . . his family . . . and the police.
But Nero Wolfe looked at a cutup newspaper and some steamship tags . . . and called it murder - a unique and incredibly complex murder! A wild guess? Not when Wolfe bet his last $10,000 that he was right!

Height 6 ft. Weight 180 lbs. Age 32.
Hair is light rather than dark, but just barely decided not to be red; he gets it cut every two weeks, rather short, and brushes it straight back, but it keeps standing up. He shaves four times a week and grasps at every excuse to make it only three times. His features are all regular, well-modeled and well-proportioned, except the nose. He escapes the curse of being the movie actor type only through the nose. It is not a true pug and is by no means a deformity, but it is a little short and the ridge is broad, and the tip has continued on its own, beyond the cartilage, giving the impression of startling and quite independent initiative. The eyes are grey, and are inquisitive and quick to move. He is muscular both in appearance and in movement, and upright in posture, but his shoulders stoop a little in unconscious reaction to Wolfe's repeated criticism that he is too self-assertive.

Rex Todhunter Stout was born in Noblesville, Indiana, December 1, 1886. He was the sixth of nine children born to John and Lucetta Todhunter Stout. Educated in Kansas, he was recognized as a prodigy in arithmetic, and he studied at the University of Kansas. Stout quit school to enlist in the Navy where he spent two years as warrant officer on board President Theodore Roosevelt's yacht.
After the Navy, he began to write and tried his hand at a variety of jobs. With his brother, Stout devised and implemented a school banking system. Bank Day proved a very successful venture and allowed Stout to move to Paris and write full-time.
He published three novels before he turned to the mystery genre. The books received favorable reviews but were not best sellers. Stout returned to the United States and built a house on the Connecticut-New York state line. Fer-de-Lance, Stout's first Nero Wolfe novel, appeared in 1934.
More than seventy other Nero Wolfe books and stories followed. During World War II, Rex Stout waged a personal campaign against Nazism as chairman of the War Writers Board, master of ceremonies of the radio program, "Speaking of Liberty," and member of several national committees. After the war, he resumed writing Nero Wolfe novels. In 1959 he won the Mystery Writers of America's Grand Master Award. Rex Stout died October 27, 1975 at the age of 88. A month before his death, he published his final Nero Wolfe book, A Family Affair.

Una salida a la playa (la última del "verano") con Marcelo y Carlos junto a María José. La idea era hacer un poco de strobist aprovechando la experiencia de Marcelo en el área. La mala suerte que en éste disparo el flash no partió pero igual me inspiró para hacer un poco postprocessing dándole un duotono y hacerlo un poco más comercial.

1. I used to sing. I sang main voice for my school choir and church from 1st grade to 10th grade. I sang for the high school music team in 11th and 12th.
2. I'm lactose intolerant. Cant drink milk, can't even smell it. I'll puke!
3. I don't read. Never, not books unless its computers related. I read everything in soft copy on PDF form. Just cant read them books/novels.
4. I hate all sports. I don't watch cricket, football, tennis or whatever the hell it is.
5. Co-incidence or fate all of my secret crushes in life have come to me for matrimonial advice, lol!
6. I've never passed a math test/exam in life with the exception of one half yearly exam and the 10th/12th public board exams. :P
7. I love rangoli (kolam). I've participated in so many rangoli contests in school and won quite a few of them.
8. I used to cook. No, does not mean boiling water and making instant coffee. Cook as in everything under the sun, during school/college days.
9. I hate typewriting classes. Joined typewriting classes 8 times and quit after the second budget.
10. I''m a total loser when it comes to food. My appetite is so bad, im a routine object of fun for my food habits in the cousin-hood.
11. I hate to be picked up/helped when i fall down. When i fall down, i have to get up myself. I would ask for help if im hurt, but never be picked up, helped etc.
12. I'm oblivious to pain. I probably live with the highest levels of pain i've ever seen in life due to arthritis but i've learnt how to ignore pain. Yes, im good at this and im so arrogantly proud of it too! :P
13. I love henna. I love to have henna on my hands even though i get ridiculed for it truck loads. I don't care, i just love it and i want it!
14. My favorite snack is bajji, especially chilli bajji! My favorite food is bisi bele bath. I hunt for bisi bele bath everyday when i go to bangalore!
15. I listen to my music at max volume 80 - 90% of the time. I have a 7000 Watt AMP with two 12" speaker boxes at home and my Zune is always on 16+ (max volume 20) on my Sennheiser CX-300B noise cancellation ear phones.
16. I love perfumed candles and incense stuff. I pretty much blow 1000's of rupees everytime i go to auroville or to shoppers stop or in airport duty free shops. I just cannot get enough. I have about 50 candles, ranging from small ones to 2 footers. ;-)

1. Soy traductora y no me canso. Se aprende mucho (cada día) y es inevitable estar actualizado, sobre todo cuando te dedicas a la traducción técnica... pero es un trabajo alucinante, qué voy a decir yo.
2. Me encanta la Coca-Cola Light, el Absolut con zumo de naranja y los zumos en general.
3. De comer... más rápido decir lo que no me gusta, jajaja. Por ejemplo, no soporto los caracoles.
Sí, es psicológico, lo sé, pero no puedorrrl.
4. Música toda, menos el country y el barroco. Por lo demás, me gusta todo y variado.
Qué haríamos sin la música, ni me lo imagino.
5. Cine todo también, pero claro, hay favoritos: Wong Kar Wai, Kubrick, Sofia Coppola, Coixet, Woody Allen y Lars Von Trier, por citar algunos.

7. Podría pasarme horas con la fotografía, pero la espalda tiene un límite. Otras cosas que me llenan plenamente hay muchas, pero ninguna tan permanente como ésta.
8. Esto voy a decirlo. No creo en absoluto en la "sinceridad", aunque sí en la transparencia, y literalmente estoy cansada de oírlo como si fuera la más increíble de las virtudes. Creo que lo sincero es ser como uno es, pero respetando los sentimientos ajenos.
Da la sensación de que ser sincero es soltar todo lo que se pasa por la cabeza sin pensarlo, como si eso te convirtiera en mejor persona. No lo creo, no.
9. Yo quisiera haber sido como Alaska o como Bowie, adelantada a mi tiempo. Pero no ha podido ser, aysssh.
10. Ah, otra cosa más (y espero no ofender a nadie): no creo en ninguna religión. De hecho, las rechazo, aunque unas más que otras. Por ejemplo, el budismo ni me parece una religión, de lo que mola.
En este sentido soy de la opinión de Marx en lo de que la religión es el opio del pueblo.

They say: ' We like the sport, bat we don't see why we should pay more than it actually costs, Bimply to fill the pockets of a man or a body of men who, under the guise of sportsmanship, advertise a shoot and get up a program of events.' There is a great deal in this: more perhaps than most people think, and unless this system of holding tourna- ments for profit is done away with, the sport of trap shooting will receive a black eye that it will find it a hard matter to recover from. The large tournaments of the past few years, in which big sums of money were added as cash inducements for shooters to come and try for, almost invariably added large sums to the club's treasury. The added money was raised in various ways, the manufacturers of sporting goods and ammunition being mulcted heavily for advertisements in the programs. According to an authority on the subject, several of the pro- grams for such large tournaments netted anywhere from $500 to $600, while they did n<n actnally cost, typesetting and paper, printing and postage, over $100 at the outside; often not half that sum. The entrance fees included a charge of three cents for each target thrown in tbe event. Now it has been proved by actual experience, and can also be proved

Winner of the Individual Championship Medal, California Inanimate Target Association Tournament, Ingleside, 1898. on paper, that targets can be trapped at a small profit to the club when one cent is charged. The profit at that figure is, it is true, almost infinitesimal, yet the fact that there is a profit at one cent a target, warrants the claim that there is a profit of two cents clear on each target thrown at three cents. At a tournament held in a Southern city a few yesrs ago, the sum of $3,000 was added to the parses. This added money was obtained from various sources. A certain num- ber of manufacturers were asked to donate $50 apiece, a sum of $1,000 being obtained this way; then each shooter was taxed $10 before he was allowed to shoot, and this tax re- sulted in another $1,000 or thereabouts, 100 shooters paying their fee of $10. Thus $2,000 of the added money was ob- tained. The other $1,000 came from the excess of receipts over expenditures for targets, and the deficit was easily over- come, the club coming oat ahead instead of behind, thanks to the skillful and ingenious methods of financing the tourna- ment. But such shoots as the above are out of date now. When trap shooting was io its infancy, and before professionalism at tbe trap had risen to the pitch it reached a year or so ago, there weie anv number of fairly good shots and enthusiasts who were ready and willing to "donate" for the mere pleas- ure of competing in a tournament, on the bare chance of making a "killing." The 'killing" came, but it was always on the wrong side, and the enthusiasm died out. The pro- fessionals, the paid experts, invariably walked off with from 85 to 90 per cent, of the purses, and the semi experts had barely more than carfare when it was all over. As a natural result large tournaments were doomed, and it is now a hard matter to get thirty or forty shooters together, where a few years ago an average entry list of that size might be confi- dently looked for if there was only $500 added money an- nounced; $1,000 woald not draw them out now. Trap Shooting at Monte Carlo. A prominent Eastern trap shooter, who recently returned from Monte Carlo, talked upon his return from the world's greatest gambling resort, as follows, concerning trap Bhooting there: "There are some great shooting matches there, and most of the contestants do not c~=re a pin for money. They go there with lot3 of money to spend and what they win at shooting is lost in Borne other game. The Monte Carlo management sees to it that few people get away with the cash. There are some fine shots at Monte Carlo, but not many of them, as the greatest number of Bhooters are poor shotB and only go thee to have sport and spend their money. The best shots make lots of money during the season, and I suppose live by BhoOtlDg. "The pigeons are better than our pigeons, and the bound- ary is shorter. There is only a boundary of seventeen yards straight away from the trap and a boundary of twenty-six yards at each side. This means that a shooter has to get at his birds at once. Bat there is not as many birds to kill there as here. I won one match by killing eight and an- â ..hei by killing nine. A man who kills ten straight win lots of money. The conditions are generally miss and out, and the entrance fee is high. There is added money, so that a winner gets lots of cash for killing nine or ten birds. _ Lots of wealthy shooters come down in the morning and just as soon as they miBS a bird they leave and you never see them again until the next day. They pat ap large sums for their shots." Los Angeles Gun Club. A combined live bird and blue-rock shoot at Los ADgeles on Sunday, May 29ih, was held by the Los ADgeles Gun Clob. Blades broke 93 out of 100 targets, Van Valkenberg 92, Braner 90 and Breer 88. Three live-bird and four blue- rock events and a merchandise Bhoot were on the program. The weather was very favorable and a large attendance of visitors watched the Bhooters. A lot of the manga seen here is French-translated, since I bought most of this while I was still living near Montreal and, while English-translated manga is fairly easily available in Montreal, a lot of these manga titles appeared in paperback format in French years before they were translated into English, and some of this manga, like Kimagure Orange Road, still has never seen print in English almost a decade after its full release in French.

Los Picos de Urbión constituyen una de las sierras más elevadas del Sistema Ibérico con su cumbre de Urbión, de 2228 metros. Esta sierra hace de divisoria entre las cuencas del Ebro y el Duero.
Situados entre la comunidad autónoma de La Rioja y las provincias de Soria y Burgos (Castilla y León), concretamente en los términos municipales de Viniegra de Abajo, Duruelo de la Sierra y Covaleda. Están limitados por el valle del Najerilla al norte, el valle del Duero al sur, la sierra de Neila al oeste y la sierra de Cebollera al este.
