A remix version of the Sydney Opera House as seen over many of the individual phases of the animation sequence. I picked my 6 favourites and did a little bit of editing.

Shooting Vivid Sydney 2014 has been an absolute blast. Every year is bigger and better, if you are planning a trip to Sydney and can tolerate our relatively mild winters compared to elsewhere in the world, i strongly recommend you try to visit the city while the festival is on.

In a major artwork by Eno, Luminous launches with the lighting of the Sydney Opera House sails.

Like a free form painting, Utzon’s masterpiece will glow with rich, continuously changing configurations of colour. Presented in association with Smart Light, the sails will remain lit for the three weeks of Luminous

Vivid Sydney festival

All are HDR images of the Luminous lighting taken last night and it was very cold.

The jetlag hadn't fully worn off when I arrived in Sydney, so I made the most of being awake early to head across the harbour bridge to Milson's Point on the North side of the city. It has a great view looking back towards the Opera House and the sky lit up beautifully before sunrise.

Sydney Harbour Sunset

After a long day in the office, I headed down to Mrs Macquarie's Chair for sunset. There were lots of tourists and several other photographers there, so I initially struggled to get a composition I liked. But then I tip-toed onto the rocks and got down low to capture the movement in the waves crashing on the rocks as the sunset lit up the evening sky.

Thanks again to Ilya Genkin's tips & advice that I found online here: 12 Best Photography Spots for Classical Sydney Skyline.

In keeping with my panorama phase at the moment I decided to make the most of the beautiful evening tonight and take this shot. It was difficult to get this shot as one of the tourist paddle boats parked right in front of the bridge for nearly the entire time I was there. This shot was taken just after it left. I had hoped to get the sunset colour a little more in the shot, but with the longer exposure the boat ended up blurry as it was moving slightly on the water, so I had to use the shots taken when it was nearly completely dark.

This is a three shot stitched panorama. Each shot was 30 seconds long. Stitching was done in Photoshop, as was noise reduction, sharpening, and saturation on the sky to help bring out the blues.

I got to meet a fellow photographer whilst taking this shot - I hope you got some great shot Rachael! I look forward to seeing them.
