Memorial Weekend is traditionally the time to harvest the California Red Onions in Northern California. With the help of my granddaughter (gardening angel and softball player), we dug up and topped a little over 200 onions for storage. This harvest is particularly rewarding as my efforts last year were thwarted by an elusive gopher who took out close to 90% of my crop. This year we grew them in raised beds with heavy gauge wire on the bottom.
I grew pumpkins near a fence that borders my property. The runners of those pumpkins climbed that fence & formed a pumpkin inside the wire mesh.
This was the result.
Kinda funny, isnt it?! This is one of my Early Girl Tomatoes. I purchase my plants at a local family owned/operated nursery, Needhams Nursery, in Mt Juliet, Tn.
When my hands hurt from the cold while harvesting, I thought it should be the last call for summer veggies. Here's the take...fried green tomatoes in late December!
