Stars can´t shine
without darkness .
After sitting in the car for a while i noticed the lights coming from behind me and it was beautiful .

Post processing in photoshop CS5 to pull out highlights on star trails and some levels tweaked
So it certainly made sense that if the Pemaquid Lighthouse was lighting up the bushes and the structures there that serve the lighthouse, it therefore makes sense that it was also lighting up the sky.
Impressive to see the stars come out over the ocean. This came out pretty well there next to the lighthouse. Loved the mix of man-made light and the stars.

I've been itching to shoot some stars lately. Last week I spent half the night in Gatton with Matt, Mel, Josh and Paul, I was somewhat happy with the results, but not 100%.
This was fun, after walking 10 minutes in the dark all by myself... and shooting 84 shots... I'm still not 100% happy with this one, but its my best yet.
Oh, and did you notice the bonus plane trails ;)

- Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6 Lens.

- Increased Blacks by 20%.
- 16x9 Crop.
- 84, 30 second shots, stacked in Photoshop 6.0.
- Slight colour shift in LR.
- Colour burn in Photoshop 6.0 (to increase the purple).
About Stars
A star is a massive, luminous ball of plasma that is held together by gravity. The nearest star to Earth is the Sun, which is the source of most of the energy on Earth. Other stars are visible in the night sky, when they are not outshone by the Sun. Historically, the most prominent stars on the celestial sphere were grouped together into constellations, and the brightest stars gained proper names. Extensive catalogues of stars have been assembled by astronomers, which provide standardized star designations.

except...i dropped it in the river..well not the actual filter just the thing that holds it on there :/ FAIL.
One of the things I wanted to shoot when we traveled up north was star trails. Living in Dallas the city lights wash out any opportunity to shoot stars. There was much trial and error over a few nights. Once I located the North Star (bottom right of the shot above) the pattern was a little more impressive. I had a crappy foreground so I added a part of the tree top. Not sure if that was necessary? Any other suggestions on shooting stars is much appreciated.

Clustered droid speeders, Designed as an area defense installation, it also work well for ambushes.
Totally autonomous, they lay dormant until activated, usually by detecting a presence in the area, or they can be timed to activate - it can lay 'asleep' for many years.
Meteors, Stars, Planes, and Cars
Busy place out there. Over four hours of star trails, meteors, airplanes, and cars. Oh, and a couple of hikers returning to the car to get the bottle of wine.

~ Three shooting stars, Milky Way, and University of Hawaii 2.2 meter telescope. Was fumbling by this time as I had been here a while and lack of oxygen was finally getting to me at 14,000 ft. At the same time, it was a bit of an adrenalin rush — at Mauna Kea Observatory.

I woke early this morning and decided to take a ride up to Shenandoah National Park. The skies were clear and I was treated to an amazing sky.
I stopped at one of the overlooks along Skyline Drive and got a quick few shots. The light pollution gave this scene a particularly interesting look. I shot it with my Sigma 15mm fish, which is why the horizon is so bent, along with montains being taken in by the wideness of that lens.
Techy Info: Nikon D3s with a Sigma 15mm Fish, 20 second exposure @ f/8, ISO 10,000. 2770 ft above sea level, 28 degrees and a 10-15 mph breeze. Brrr!

My first ever star trails image. Taken with Nikon D90 and Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 at Comanche Springs Astronomy Campus in Crowell, TX. You might see a message in there. One of my buddies wrote "Hi Phil" with his red flashlight.
Viewing the stars from the Mauna Kea Observatory. Big Island, Hawaii. Standing above the clouds. First attempt at astrophotography.
Star trails high above an old building that was once used to store and dry rice, in the Delta of eastern Arkansas. This was taken over the course of about an hour and a half, after a cold front had gone through and removed a lot of the haze and humidity. Unfortunately the thousands of mosquitoes here stayed behind and were bloodthirsty.
Shots were taken with a Canon 6D.
This morning I woke up at 02.30 and departure for the Pian Bandia, at 2400 meters above sea level, where I arrived at 04.00.
I wanted to try to do some night shot with a starry sky, and this my first ever attempt.
The strong cold wind did not help taking pictures, I had to keep the tripod because otherwise it would fall, so strong the wind was pulling ...
I think that's why the details on the mountains are not that great ....
I do better in future (and I will remember definitely bring a sweater in more ....)

Questa mattina per me sveglia alle 02,30 e partenza per il Pian della Bandia,a 2400 mt di altezza,,alla confluenza della valle Grana,Maira e Stura,dove sono arrivato alle 04,00.
Volevo provare a fare qualche notturna con cielo stellato,questo e' in assoluto il mio primo tentativo.
Il vento gelido e forte non mi ha certo aiutato a scattare le immagini,dovevo tenere il tripiede perche' altrimenti cadeva,talmente tirava forte il vento...
Penso che sia per questo che i dettagli sulla montagna non sono un gran che....
Faro' di meglio le prossime uscite(e mi ricordero' sicuramente di portare una maglia in piu'....)

The star gooseberry fruits are crisp and juicy but very sour in taste. Fresh fruits are served with a condiment of sugar, salt and chili peppers. They can also be preserved by simmerring the fruits with sugar until they are soft and turn red in color. The juice from the cooking can also be used as a beverage.
