Further experimentation with Japanese Stab Binding patterns. Each binding in this set is progressively complex. At the same time, the color of each binding moves through the spectrum from red to violet.

Rainbow book. I made this book last Friday, inspired by a rainbow. Lucky I had made all the colours I needed to cover this and then have enough for the pages.

Crappy pic, but here is the most recent book I made. I love the way the stitching turned out, even if it isn't how it was supposed to be =P This was a request for a friend.

I made a handful of small Japanese stab books during the power outages from the recent snowstorm. The covers are paint chips and the thread is either natural waxed linen thread or some baker's twine we have.

There's a few black/gray ones, a cyan one, a purple one, a yellow one, and one similar to the background in our "logo"

Each book also has a corresponding endsheet as well.

The books were all hand cut, punched, and bound by me.

Small Bound Recycled Notebooks. Look...Round Corners!

The covers are made with inlaid strips of leather. Both front covers have a hinge joint and the back cover has hinge joints at each end so it is quite flexible. And of course, a classic yotsume toji binding.

This custom order was a special request to bind the contents of a blog for a gift for the blog's writer. I used a Japanese/stab binding and hinged both the front and back covers.

Blogged:

couple of books I made this semester..

The title of the brief was 'I am the Lie'. And just from those 4 words I had to create/ develop my own brief.

I created a set of 5 A5 booklets. Each Booklet set on one different conspiracy, such as:

The death of Elvis

UFOs

The Iraqi war

etc.

On the cover is 2 sets of 4 laser cut squares. With the removal of the belly band, the shapes from both the belly band and the cover the word 'LIE' is formed.

Binding detail of a bound recycled notebook

each week we have to learn a different binding style (for the next few weeks) in my bookmaking class. this one is the simplest and it is a japanese stab binding created by a guy named ikegami (cant remember first name).

the colors are a bit asque because i threw it on the scanner bed but it's created with a thick paper for the cover which is entirely recycled (you can see bits of newspaper) and it's light green and imported from france. the inner pages are hand torn 80 lb. drawing paper sheets. there are 13 sheets, which makes 26 pages. this is a blank book (no content) and is bound with twine.

I needed a new sketch book, so I made this Japanese stab bound journal.

Read more about it over here: blog.mohumohu.com/post/33374299928/handmade-paper-journal

Mini-Mini stab bound book. 6cmx8cm.

Hard cover is off-cut recycled board from a bulk distributor and the paper covering the book is my own recycled handmade paper

50 sheets of reclaimed white paper, this paper comes to me in bulk but damaged in some way.

paper scrap bin project...mothers day swap at mjf

New England Power Outage Book!

I taught myself coptic binding during our recent nearly weeklong power outage. This is the very first one (I messed up, so it has extra holes)

It's covered in a blue matboard leftover from a frame shop's scraps.

Coptic binding is a non adhesive binding that shows off the spine instead of hiding it.

::Coming soon* - the dramatic tale of how I refused to let my work be perceived as worthless::

An epic tale!

An ironic twist!

Questionable anecdotes about Salvador Dali!

How the drill press in the basement of my dormitory saved the day!

The consummation? - 14 books with black rubber covers - current fates unknown.

Little hardback journal with a cover made with Japanese washi paper featuring the hemp leaf binding. Lots of pages--close to 50 if I remember correctly. The journal measures 3" x 4". Coordinating gift bag for fun!
