This was taken a couple of months ago on the tail end of blue hour. Just enough light to do something will without an ultra long exposure.

Here's a shot of the falls from last year. HDR with Luminance processed in Lightroom.

a polarizing filter really helped bring out the colors in this shot.

Best if viewed large. Not the best but I like it. Photo taken in Spokane, Washington. The Spokane River runs under the bridge and is quite low this time of year. In the left center are the gondolas that regularly run across the falls which are non-existent right now but spectacular in spring!

Spokane, WA

The falls consists of an Upper Falls and a Lower Falls. The Upper Falls is the site of the Upper Falls Dam, a diversion dam constructed in 1920 that directs the water into the Upper Falls intake on the south channel of the Spokane River. The Upper Falls Power Plant incorporates a Francis turbine capable of generating 10 MW. The Lower Falls is the site of a second diversion dam, the Monroe Street Dam. Completed in 1890, it was the first dam built on the Spokane River and is currently the longest-running hydroelectric generation facility in Washington state. Its Kaplan turbine has a generating capacity of 14.82 MW.

The Spokane County Courthouse shrouded by a descending moon. I usually bring up the overall exposure but on this one I boosted contrast to emphasize the lights on the building and the moon light. It's amazing how compositions work, and this one would be OK with just the tower, but with the features to the lower left of the main tower, the comp really comes together. And of course I didn't even see the secondary features until I got home and processed it.

We had a Friday Photo session with my friend Mike Wiseman and Tim Hill, they are both an awesome photographer and great friends. We decided to walk to Rivertfront Parka and shoot Spokane Falls. Great fun photographing with friends.

Any comments/tips/trick/anything greatly appreciated

The Spokane River running through downtown Spokane in a dry year.

I thought I'd follow up yesterday's post of Spokane's Duncan Garden with another local landmark: the upper falls of the Spokane river. There is another impressive falls close downstream.

The Spokane River Falls are Spokane’s finest natural attraction, as well as the heart of Riverfront Park. Located in the core of Spokane, the falls of the Spokane River flow and often rage as the seasons change. The Spokane River flows from Lake Coeur d’Alene to Lake Roosevelt and the Spokane Falls are perhaps the most dramatic transition along the 111 mile run.

From the earliest of times, the Spokane Falls were a gathering place for the Spokane Tribe of Indians as a source of food and beauty. Many generations later the falls became a gathering place for all nations with EXPO 74 World's Fair and is still shared daily by people from around the world.

The town was originally founded as "Spokan Falls."

The city's name is drawn from the American Indian tribe known as the Spokane, which means "Children of the Sun" in Salishan.

After The Great Fire of 1889 and the rebuilding of the downtown, the city was reincorporated under the present name of "Spokane" in 1891. Not sure why they did that. Wish they would return to the original name, Spokane Falls.

Thanks for taking a look. Always appreciated!

The clocktower in Riverfront Park -- a great place to be, to see, to photograph.

Spokane Falls is running full steam and it's looking good with some recent updates they've made to the surrounding trails.

A merge of 6 vertical shots to capture this almost 180 degree scene.

Here's another autumn view of the falls.

Touring around Spokane

After a million trips to Spokane, I finally decided to take a look at this magnificent Spokane Falls that a few people have told me about. I have to admit, at night it is pretty impressive with the lights shining on it. Well worth the time spent and the damage to my glasses after I stepped on them.

These bright leaves had fallen from a tree a couple of blocks from my house. I took some shots while on a walk with my wife and dog :)

Many techniques used on this image are demonstrated in my recently released set of videos "Image Editing Volume I". A link can be accessed through my Flickr profile. Due to more strict enforcement of their rules, Flickr has asked me and many others to take down info such as links to personal websites, workshop information, and editing videos. However, it is still allowed to have such information in one's Flickr Profile.

It was a beautiful evening in Spokane

Thank you for the faves and comments

Spokane Falls is the name of the series of waterfalls and dams on the Spokane River in downtown Spokane, Washington.

The falls consists of an Upper Falls and a Lower Falls. The Upper Falls is the site of the Upper Falls Dam, a diversion dam constructed in 1920 that directs the water into the Upper Falls intake on the south channel of the Spokane River.

This is the Lower Falls :-)
