I made a short stop at the Cut River Bridge on my way back from Tahquamenon Falls last month. It's an impressive span, and trails lead down to the river below, which I of course checked out. See I found my mind thinking back to 2005, when my son was part of a state championship marching band. Their program opened with a song called "Tempered Steel." While this really isn't tempered steel, all the steel in this bridge reminded me of a very fun day 10 years ago. See

"A goldfish has a ten second memory span by scientists we are told

And their span of time seems to be brief they soon grow weak and old

But how can even the most intelligent human being know what goes on in a fish's brain

As the ways of Nature it would seem beyond us to explain."

Spanning 40m over the Aoos river and over 20m high the semicircular bridge at Konitsa was a technical challenge for the master masons of the region.

Vluchtenburcht genaamd Spaanse Graven.

ESCAPE called Spanish Graves. Probably in the years 1587-1588, when the Spaniards stayed in the area for a few months, an earthen rampart built by them, which is situated about half a kilometer southeast of the Wijer van Molecaten, right behind the spijker Watervlied. The naming Spanish Graves should most likely be read as "the Spanish (= noun = Spaniards) graves (verb)". The construction consists of an almost rectangular terrain, which has a slightly elevated plateau in the middle, around which a path. The site is closed off on the east, west and north sides by a single wall and on the south side by a double wall. The walls are approximately 2 meters high. The double southern rampart continues in a westerly direction.

At the end of the 19th century, the redoubt was planted with beech trees.

Opened in 1928 the New Tyne Bridge connects Newcastle with Gateshead over the River Tyne.

This bridge, the Hunsecker's Mill Covered Bridge, is the longest single span covered bridge in Lancaster County, PA. There are 29 covered bridges in the county, the most of any county in the state. See: I did visit two more covered bridges that morning, but I wasn't happy with the images I took there. Here are the two other bridges I saw: and .

This footbridge, located in Silver Falls State Park, is a replacement for an older one that I photographed back in 2013 (See that photo in the comments below). It doesn't surprise me. I've seen this park after Mother Nature has her way with a good windstorm. It's not pretty. Either the old bridge got taken out by a fir tree or the rain and moss finally made it unsafe.

I did think there would be a better sunrise than was presented with my hopes being raised when the sun slowly appeared behind me and parts of the sky were tinged with pink. Sadly this came to nothing.

Thank you for viewing the image and please leave a comment, good or bad.

My second keeper of the morning. The Richmond Bridge just keeps giving. Nicknamed the roller coaster span do to the vertical undulation of the center section.

Goat Island Park and Greenway is another one of those gems off the beaten path that's worth visiting. Beautiful scenery and so much fun to explore.

Wide composition there where I cloned out a bit of the foreground that was in the lower right corner to make the view 'cleaner' ... did that all within Lightroom. Not sure I am completely happy with the results and may need to go back and play with more (when I can get some time).

I do like this wide composition of the scene there at Lake Moraine.

Japanese red maple leaves on snow, caught in the fleeting late afternoon light at Lake Tahoe. Not very deep, but very welcome, and more is forecast Sunday and Monday. :-)))

Found in St Anton am Arlberg Austria along the Rosanna River. Hope everyone has a wonder weekend!

A view of the iconic lighthouse there in Maine ... with a really cool rainbow that formed near sunset with the passing front. Needless to say I was rushing around like a nut case taking snaps :)

One wonderful evening to be in Bryce.

One of the most photographed pieces of architecture in The Columbia River Gorge - Benson Bridge was crafted by Italian stone masons, allows visitors to cross the falls between it's lower and upper cataracts. In 1914, Simon Benson, a prominent businessman and owner of the falls at that time, erected the bridge. Before then, a log bridge was in its place.....
