I love the benefits of living in a university town, especially in the summer when the students are gone and wait times to eat out are next to nil.

Went to Pandapas Pond last night to see if I could shoot the Milky Way since it was so clear at the house... Got there as the clouds were rolling in and didn't really try to hard - still there was something pretty about the night. (Also, got to hear an incredible chorus of coyotes!)

Note the three men cutting the tobacco leaves and then attaching to a stick. The tobacco dries over several days and then they store it in a barn.

So nice to be able to get out today without freezing to death. 28 feels like a heat wave.

This little section of the New River Trail is pretty awesome this time of year. Lots of blooms are starting come out. In just a couple weeks there will be a nice carpet of white. For now, just dew drops with a camera phone.

The green is finally reaching the upper elevations of the Blue Ridge Plateau! I stopped off the the side of i-81 heading to Roanoke to fly the phantom around a bit.

This Holiness church is located in Poor Valley here in Rose Hill, VA. The congregation has been the subject of ridicule and controversy due to the fact that some here handle serpents as part of their worship. There has been some snakebites, and at least a couple of deaths, one being a pastor. Usually, if bitten, the person refuses medical treatment.

This photo was taken at a fishing pier at Beartree Lake, in the Jefferson National Forest, Beartree, VA. The beauty of these insects astonishes me - right down to the luminescence and touches of red on each wing. Photo by Cindy DeVore. cindy@valleygreennaturals.com

I found this jewel early this morning in the drizzling rain. I think it's the old Lone Branch Baptist Church that is near the Virginia / Tennessee line in Lee County, Va. on St. Rt. 612. If this is the old church, ir was built in 1904. (The current church, built in 1969, is a brick building that sits about 100 yards or so out the road). Sorry I cut thte tip of the steeple off a bit, but I still do not have a new wide angle lens, and I couldn't get it all in with my zoom without power lines cutting through the middle of the church. I also didn't want to go up the drive too much because I didn't want to trespass. I will definitely have to go back here!
