Found this poor robin dead by my car with Lacy, the neighbourhood cat lounging nearby. Judging by the not-yet-mangled shape of the bird (and the fact that Lacey brought us half of a mouse a few days ago) the conspicuous bystander may indeed be innocent.
This is the upper Copper Creek Railroad trestle at Speers Ferry in Scott County Virginia. There is another much smaller trestle that runs beside it. The upper trestle (built in1908) is 185 ft. high and 1160 ft. long. This photo was taken next to Hwy. 23 yesterday.
This one had its front legs stretched out straight in front of it, pretending to be a stick. "Land on this nice stick, little bugs!"

I picked T. angustipennis instead of T. sinensis because that's what I picked previously...
According to wikipedia, angustipennis is a subspecies of Tenodera aridifolia, but BugGuide doesn't agree. (BugGuide is usually up-to-date on this stuff...)
More info: I really can't find much, other than the links above...

Wow, this one is actually sticking around on Explore 2013-09-06. This whole Explore algorithm is fascinating for some reason... (Partially because I suddenly get a couple thousand views in a few hours...)
Update on Explore: it managed to stick through the whole day! Over 7,000 views - versus my typical 20-30 views...
There are a few species of Nephrotoma that look similar, but this specimen looks a lot like the first one in this reference
NOT a mosquito, of course...

A view from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Don't have any shots in my stash that I am too excited about, but I do like this one. Have a trip planned for this weekend....hopefully I will find inspiration :)
Thanks for taking a moment to view my photo. I appreciate it!! Hope everyone has a great evening and a terrific week ahead!!
Yes, this is a FLOWER. No, it is not a mushroom or fungus!
Note: this plant does not contain chlorophyll. It is parasitic with a fungal host.

Continuing my search for a good Blue Heron photograph, Ricky and I hit a different location on the New River. This turned out to be fine for his fishing, but the current was clearly too strong for me to be carrying the camera into the water. I am happy with this shot in general however, though frustrated by the blown highlights.

I sure do love the annual bloom of pretty much everything, but especially these little Dutchman's Breeches that seem to carpet the hillsides near the New River.
I've been trying to get out and about a lot lately, here are more recent images.
This old barn is down on the "lower end" of Lee County, Va. along Hwy 58. (By "lower end" I mean down almost to the tip where Virginia meets Kentucky at Cumberland Gap. I really wanted to take the shot on the upper side (right side in the photo) because the roof is red, plus I wanted to get the side of the barn. However, there are also a bazillion power lines, etc... between the highway and the buildings. In order to get a good shot without trespassing, I would've had to park on the shoulder of the highway (going the other way...west), walked through some high grass up the bank and to the fence. Normally that would be no big deal...except it had been raining fairly steady earlier and the grass was very wet...and it was still drizzling when I took this one. I was also on my way back to Rose Hill, and was in kind of a hurry.

I was watching TV one evening, when I noticed a very unusual orangish light that bounced off the white wall of the family room. Wasn't quite sure what it was until I looked out of our kitchen window and this was what I saw. This view is literally in our backyard. We have seen thousands of sunsets, but never one like this before or since. I am still filled with awe when I look at this picture.
