pandapas pond just prior to sunset... chasing the elusive beaver...

This photo is so full of failure I intend to delete it soon. Just figured I'd see what the overall reaction was first, or if anyone had tips on photographing fireflies.

I ordered a B+W ND110 last week. This is my first attempt at running water. I'm looking for comments, criticisms, suggestions... I'm totally new to ND filters.

I was sleeping for most of this one!

After spending some time on Wilburn Ridge and freezing my tail off, I hiked back down to the car to find a place to catch the moon rise.

I decided on this place in between Mouth of Wilson and Independence Virginia along the New River. It is located just before the river flows over the Stuart Dam, causing the river to be nice and still.

After a quick cull of the images, I didn't think I had enough meteors to make a worthwhile photo, but taking a look a day or two later(and with less tired eyes) I saw there were many more meteors than I had thought! A lot of them even showed up after the moon had come up!

Once I set the camera, I didn't stay awake long and was woken up by the rising moon shining into my car a couple hours later.

Someone nearby had either started a fire in a fireplace or a brush fire(I wasn't sure since it was early in the A.M.), and this caused the smoke to 'waft' into my scene, which you can see in the trees below the moon. It also smelled nice, I sure do love the smell of a fireplace.

Then, I headed home, and I gotta say, getting into that warm bed with my wife was about the best feeling ever after such a cold night!

Sunrise at Castle Rock on the New River in Pembroke VA

After screwing around a bit down in the icey Wilson Creek drainage of Grayson Highlands State Park, I headed up to the top of Big Pinnacle to grab a sunset. The howling winds had me ducking behind any rock I could and also had me wishing I had worn just one more layer...

I really like that the shade covered northern slopes of the mountains still have some residual snow on them, it really breaks up the dull grey of winter. Getting up here was fun too, since the trail is on the north side of the hill, lots of snow has built up, which is always fun to trudge through!

Happy Friday the 13th :)

one more of Lacy... three is an auspicious number, right?

We stopped here to take pictures and the owner came up and wanted to know if we would help run the cows from one pasture to the other. So we did. Interesting day. You never know what you will see or do.

I loved Shenandoah National Park.

This lovely mill is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. There are other old buildings also.

My theory about Dismal Falls in Bland County is that the first settlers didn't want anyone to know the gem they had found. Much like the Vikings named Iceland and Greenland "oppositely" to trick their enemies, so was Bland named Bland and Dismal Falls dubbed dismal. These places are neither of these things. Bland may be the most beautiful county I have yet to traverse and Dismal Falls was a delight.

Mountain Lake, or what's left of it. Not to be confused with nearby Smith Mountain Lake, Mountain Lake's claim to fame is as the location for the filming of Dirty Dancing in the summer of 1986... and they'll never let you forget it.

Wish some of this moist air would find its way here again...like so many, we're in the middle of a very hot and very dry spell.

i know this is far from my most technically competent imagery, but i've been sitting on this red sky photo for a while now. this summer we had some incredible sunsets closing out less than spectacular days. this is a prime example.

This was seen along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.
