Most amazing experience of my life ! While observing the annual spring bird migration me and 2 friends watched this sea mammal surfacing 10 times. The spot where we stood is next to the river "schelde" some 80 km inland in Belgium !!! We couldn't make out exactly what it was. There aren't a lot of options. Of the 4 possible species that are sometimes seen here, there was only one viable option and that was a grey seal in a pretty bad shape. That's how we recorded this sighting. We forgot all about it until one month later there was a dead Narwhal found some 4 km from were we stood. The most unlikely species to be ever seen in Belgium ! Unfortunately we didn't made the link with our sighting until a scientist contacted us 3 months later for extra information about our sighting. Luckily I still had all my RAW-files of that day. After some investigation with whale specialists they concluded that we were the only 3 people who had ever seen a life Narwhal in Belgium. This most likely is the most southern sighting of a Narwhal ever. Mind blowing !!!
