Beautiful bluehour after the cold front bought the much needed rains in central Texas.

North view of Texas State Capitol.

One of many specialty shoppes that have cropped up on South Congress Ave in Austin, TX. It was just over 12 years ago that the SOCO (So-uth Co-ngress) strip was in a decline. Now it can is full of antique shops and restaurants. A neat place to go on Sunday.

Ahh, the things I do for getting a nice shot... Well, I guess "nice" is relative, but I digress.. This shot was taken from South Congress Ave looking north through downtown Austin to the Capitol Building. As you can see I stood in the middle of the road to get the shot. "What a death-defying feat of uncommon bravery," you must be thinking to yourself.. Well, stupid maybe, but not that brave. Really there wasn't a lot of traffic on this morning so it was pretty easy and non-eventful to get this shot. Here it is..

Also, South Congress Ave or SoCo as it's known in these parts has some eclectic (aka weird) shops and boutiques that the trendy patronize. It's an interesting area. Click here to see some examples to which I refer...

Uncommon Objects is a vintage novelty store on South Congress Avenue in Austin.

Uncommon is right. It's an emporium of weirdness. The store offers a wide collection of strange antiquities of just about every age, form and function. None are cheap by the way...

South Congress institution. Fran was repainted not long after I shot this, will have to go back and get a good pic of her ponytail :-)

For Vanessa and myself this was our first trip to Texas. I have changed planes in Dallas on occasion, though I really had no experience of Texas. Cast from left to right: Vanessa Palas - Danish/Russian model & artist, and long time best-friend and sometimes travelling companion. Tracy - native Texan and art director & graphic designer, and Kirk "Wed" Weddle - photographer (Nirvana's Nevermind CD). And myself Jeff Bürger.

To announce to our friends living in Austin (capital of Texas), our forthcoming arrival I created this postcard. A preconceived humorous visual of what I thought it might look like from So. Congress Avenue with the capital building in the backdrop. Yes there was a Starbucks on South Congress Ave (though in reality it was on the other side of the street).

A must visit if you're swinging through this part of the country. I'd even say it's worth a day trip if you're in Memphis, especially if you stop by Square Books.

A variation on a clay pig theme,

full of fluffy bits of glitz & glam. I love the windows at Uncommon Objects on South Congress.

Always fun to do a photo shoot with Dionne due to her high energy level and enthusiasm.
