Sun and Wind Power in rural Ontario

La Seine Musicale : 36000 m2. Voile solaire (solar sail) de 1000 m2.

Architectes : Shigeru Ban et Jean de Gastines. 2017

Paris - Ile Seguin

The track at the top of the picture is for the window cleaning cradle not trains.

As a landscapephotographer I usually try to find a beautiful vista or nice details in our ever changing environment. This time I'll show you something different. I let you be the judge if it's beautiful or not...

Everyday I pass by this 35 hectare of (former) rural area alongside the highway on my way to work. For months contractors had been busy erecting 145.000 solar-panels. Finally there were so much panels that it is difficult to imagine how the landscape had look like. It was a panel-galore..

I found a good viewing point so I could take this image. The pre-sunrise colour in the sky adds a apocalyptic mood to this sci-fi landscape. Forget about our tulip-fields or grazing cows in the green fields: This is gonna be our future Holland (2020 AC).

The times, they are a changin':

Award winning architectural design by Sean Godsell Architects in association with Peddle Thorp Architects.

One of the unusual features of the facade of the Design Hub is that it has the capability of collecting solar energy throughout most of the day, as the surface is covered in operable disks.

radiant energy emitted by the sun.

• another term for solar power.

These two were part of a wake of vultures, ravenously feeding on an opossum carcass. As I approached with my camera they bolted and landed on the solar panels. These Black Vultures have proven destructive in the area and are not very welcomed visitors. Still, they are part of the ecosystem, doing their thing.
