Sometimes the "would have beens" and the "could have beens" can take over my life!
It is hard to be a dreamer and a realist at the same time!! :-)
(Maybe thats the curse of being a photographer)

My wednesday soft tones image for today.
The first of april is always a memorable day for me (read "I am tagged")
I will start this day with a special thought for my son Brian.
~ On Explore # 67, first of april 2009. Thank you ALL ! ~

I visited the same place last winter. Every sunset is different :)
This year I like the soft tones. But it was very cold.
Not sure what this little creature is. I guess I'll have to leave it up to the lepidopterologists to help me out. The light was oh so perfect for a macro, and this guy just flew onto the echinacea flower I was about to photograph (serendipity!). My mother in law has lovely echinacea plants, and occasionally some interesting beasties fly onto them. Was lucky to catch this guy in the right light. Oshiro (Venus Laowa) 2:1 Macro lens, handheld, fairly high ISO (1250) to get to 1/1000th (again, handheld). Nikon d750.

“Damn Baby-girl, was it dat bad?” ~ View On Black
“I had enough of his shit. It was me or him, an’ it weren’t gonna’ be me.”
“Not only did da’ man have to sleep on the couch, he hadda’ sleep on the couch, out in the alley?”
“Damn straight. Enuff is enuff, ya’ hear me?”
“I hear ya’. Well, how’d you get him to leave? You ain’t no bigger than a sacka’ potatoes yo’self.”
“I tole him he could do what he wanna’ iff'n he stay, but one thing he better wanna’ do, and get good at doin’ real quick-like, is sleepin' with one eye open.”
“You meant it…”
“I meant it.”
“Well, how’d the couch git out here.”
“I chucked it over the back porch railin’. Too bad he wasn’t in it.”
“Lucky for him, it summer.”
“He ain’t that damn lucky. It rain good lasted night.”
"Oh, I see. Kinda' a rough night out, huh?"
"Woulda' been a rougher one, he stayed inside."
“Yea....Where he at now?”
“In the basement…dryin’ out his clothes. Hey, it ain’t like I’m some stone-cold bitch. I got sympathy.”
“But only so far…huh, Baby Girl?”
“Yeah, only so far.”
“What about tonight?”
“He can sleep wherever it wuz he slept two nights ago.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
And so it is, that young men, for whom the world is their's (they think), will walk by the scene of a "rough night" and, perhaps, snicker or tease, while us men of a certain age and more, either look away so as not to embarrass, or simply purse our lips and nod as a sign of relationship recognition.
When you "been there" "Done that" - or when you know such a state of discord is always a possibility in any relationship (however remote), that little prayer we say inside, "sho' glad that ain't me," does not have to be spoken aloud.

..............for summer to arrive.
The cold, wet summer continues here in the UK & my garden is at least 2 months behind what it would normally be at this time of year with no butterflies, bugs or blooms. Went back in my archives to see the last time I was able to do any flower photography which was Jan 2012 in Madeira. At this rate it will be Jan 2013 before I do any more!
Have a wonderful start to the week everyone.
De ayer, después de la lluvia que cayó en el Vallés.
Feliz finde. Besosssssss

Soft light and soft tones, all part of the charm of this lovely Deer Park by the river Bela

** My very grateful thanks to all my Contacts. I will respond to every one (in time). My husband is seriously ill, and I thank everyone for their kind wishes.
Bokehlicious Dandelion seed head.
Saw a field of dandelions this morning so I decided to take a few macro shots.
Dandelion - after the seed is released, the parachutes lose their feathered structure and take on a fuzzy, cotton-like appearance, often called "dandelion snow."

Thank you to Lynn (www.flickr.com/photos/dreamofbaloo_photography/) for telling us the location of these poppies at Winchelsea. Lovely field, they might still have one more week there. The soft tones all created in camera by manually changing the Kelvin value on the white balance. Manual focus as well at F2.8

Paria Rimrocks Toadstool Hoodoos Grand Staircase-Escalante NM, Utah
The Paria Rimrocks are an amazing collection of hoodoos, badlands, and other interesting rock formations found in the area located between the Cockscomb Fault and the southern section of Cottonwood Canyon Road just north of US 89.
Last October I had the chance to take pictures from the sunrise at Paria Rimrocks and now the sunset with its beautiful soft colors and a great atmosphere. My brother and myself were totally alone, till "little late" a whole crowd of photographers from Japan appeared...and suddenly 10 tripods were positioned in one row...reminded me a bit on Mesa Arch in Canyonlands NP that is always highly frequented...but we already had most everything in the can... :-)

Photo lesson to my Class: beginners to intermediate ~ View On Black Large
Question to me: “Bob, what are you looking for when you walk about, camera in hand?”
Usually one or more of the following things initially catches my eye: color, form, light, lines, movement, pattern, shadow, shape, texture, tone. I am always “open” to any of these. It can be one thing, or several at once that attract me. (The order here is alphabetical only; it means nothing else).
Example: A specific item - a Phone Booth
“Oh, look, that phone booth on the corner, the light of the setting sun going through it. Lines, colors, reflections!” That is my immediate trigger.
Then, I usually start to speak out loud to myself as I analyze what I’m looking at and start shooting. (I really believe in the artist speaking to themselves, as an aid to focusing in on what they wish to do; providing yourself with your own feedback). I’m thinking lens settings, f-stops, shutter speeds, iso settings, angles, light, compositions as I am doing them. I will usually stay focused on a specific trigger and photo it thoroughly.
Second example: Non-specific item: a general area - a Parking Lot
Sometimes, imagery comes not directly, but as more of a visual-instinctive connection to an overall scene, e.g., when I was driving in this vacant parking lot, one early-fall evening. Your photo instincts just know there are going to be a few good images out there, even though you might not initially see anything specific or particular…
“Oh oh: shapes, forms, textures, colors, lights. Oh yeah! Ok, now what, what, what?!”
Again, I’ll start walking, talking, looking and shooting. Camera up to the eye, down from the eye; up, down. Again, composition, angle, point of view, and all other tech issues come more directly into play as conscious thoughts > decisions > actions.
It sounds long and involved, but it really isn’t (or I’m used to it after 40 years). It only takes a couple of seconds to fall into a mode where I am focused on the photo ops around me (general or specific), thinking and talking to sort through the tougher, specific details of shooting: iso setting, filters, angle, lens, low or high pov, dof, focus, etc., needed to capture what started as a visual inspiration.
As I start shooting I am looking at the monitor on the camera back - with glasses and a hand held magnifying glass - checking comp, color, light, shadow, focus as much as possible.
Move, move, move, keep moving. Talk, talk, talk. Look….See…Think…Feel…Act.
If a thought comes up, examine it: “Ok, yeah, how about a high angle, low angle, long lens, wide lens, accent this color? Oh, look at the patterns if I step back.” Eventually I’ll pause to think, “what’d I miss?”
If you can do this speaking internally, (which I can’t) that is fine too. It’s the process of thinking, not how that process is manifest, that is important.
Shoot until you think you are done – there is no time limit here; this may last seconds to hours. You will still be surprised at what you got when you get home. How images look out there, and then again back at home, can be quite different.
After awhile you will find that you are establishing a more consistent photographic approach and rhythm to your shooting that works for you and the imagery that tends to attract your eye. You are actually giving yourself a greater sense of control and direction at the shoot, but doing so without eliminating creativity, flexibility or improvisation.
A disciplined conscious/subconscious approach actually improves your ability to be creative, flexible, and fluid. Your ability to respond to both the unexpected as well as the expected, gets better.
Alright, let’s go shoot.
