Almost a rare occurrence in Victoria BC which has the mildest climate in Canada. This is the first serious snow we have had in nearly three years, the good thing is it doesn't last long, the temperatures for the rest of the week will be above freezing so it will melt quickly and if it rains it will disappear even quicker.
We had a beautiful, brief snow today. I couldn't resist going to the park to play. It always reminds me of 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening' by Robert Frost. Take a few moments to enjoy the beauty around us.

Updating with full text of the poem for the feel, write, share group. This is one of my favorite poems because a lot of my photography is done on impulse. I see something that strikes me and i stop and capture what i see. For me the feeling
or noticing comes first, words are much harder.
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
BY ROBERT FROST
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
A snow day at college provided an opportunity for us to drive up the side of the mountain to get some pictures of snow covered trains and signals.
YIPPEE!! We finally have a blanket of snow! Though the NC coast received the majority of the snow, we too were gifted with at least 2" of snow that has covered the fields, lined the trees, and closed the schools. I'm doing the happy snow dance with the kids!!!
The deep cold will keep the snow on the ground a bit longer than usual and the roads will make driving hazardous -- so prayers for those who must get out in it ....
Not sure why I chose b/w for this - there is little difference than from the colorized version. More shoveling of snow tomorrow when it's done...
A WB CN Manifest train blows thru a small snow drift at Moose Range Rd in rural Dekalb County, IL during the amazing winter of 2013-14
Woeful snowfall for the skiers this year, but some nice days for walking. A shot from the end of February, near le Chinaillon/Grand Bornand.

A fresh layer of snow creates great conditions for a snowshoer in the Albion Hills conservation area in Ontario, Canada. Postprocessed in Lightroom.
Another shot from last years Switzerland trip. This was from the Golden Pass train. I was shooting 850nm (black and white) IR as we fell below the snow line and I realised that snow and grass was coming out the same, so I switched to 600nm so that I could get some colour separation between the two.
