Silhouette oder Schattenriss sind Begriffe aus der Malerei, Optik, Fotografie. Man bezeichnet damit den Umriss bzw. die Kontur einer Fläche oder die von dieser Kontur umschlossene Fläche, die sich dunkel von einem hellen Hintergrund (oder umgekehrt) abhebt. Das kann auch eine natürliche Kontur (zum Beispiel der Schatten eines Körpers oder die durch die Bebauung erzeugte Kontur einer Stadt (Skyline)) oder eine künstliche (zum Beispiel eine Schattenzeichnung oder ein Scherenschnitt) sein.

How about a silhouette week?

In anticipation of tomorrow's MM..... No doubt this could be considered a bit of a cop out - but it IS a silhouette and I've tried to be artistic with it.
After trying various lighting, backgrounds etc I decided an easy solution would be to use my lightbox .... simples !!
The subject is a tiny pair pf scissors 3" long, 2" wide. Funnily enough, I think they could well be used for paper silhouette -cutting !
Not only that - I had a lovely time photographing said scissors as norm and will post that on my stream too ....
Just going a little way out of my comfort zone/box/normal style to try something different. :) I didn't want her completely in shadow so I emphasized the lighting falling on her. So maybe not a true silhouette, but it gives you something to think about and focuses on her stomach. :)
Early finish at work, hoping to get a sunrise down on the beach. not the best of evenings, it adds a bit of colour to my photostream i think, better than these cold winter shots.

One week is so fast. Dark weather make me confused of day light or night, just like you drunk with pure whiskey, outside of your silhouette, there is nothing.

Construction work is going on busily even though the setting sun spreads his golden rays signaling it is time to go home. Unlike the sun, men have their hectic schedule and long hours of work. This is an everyday scene I see here but this day the ball of flame made a beautiful silhouette scene.
I borrowed my husband's Sony DSC-HX50V and took this shot from my terrace.
This Dragonfly loves to come by in my backyard... It's the biggest I have ever seen. It's black and yellow. But..... It only stops on the highest branches so I never get a clear shot of it.....

Svalbard Reindeer on a cold and windy winter's day in front of the setting sun.
Adventdalen, Spitsbergen, Svalbard.
Svalbard reindeer is the smallest subspecies of reindeer and looks both strange and cuddly! With its short legs, short neck and small snout it is perfectly adapted to living in the high Arctic.
I met this little fellow, a beautiful young male, when I was on a hike yesterday evening, enjoying being outside in windswept -15°C / 5°F. Having 200mm as my maximum focal length (I'm a landscape photographer, you know...) I slowly advanced, trying not to disturb it. Spring is the hardest time of the year for these grazing animals: the winter has been long and new plants will not grow before June. Knowing this I did not want to scare him into flight: every bit of energy saved might decide on life or death in the weeks to come.
My patience paid off: the little fellow was slowly grazing and allowed me to crawl as close until I reached his shadow. Exactely then the reindeer decided that I was too close, so it slowly wandered off, leaving me behind with ten numb fingers and a big smile on my cold face.
