Upon closing, the original #neon sign which wrapped around the corner, was carefully removed and stored by the owners. They recently reached out to us to let us know that they donated their #neonsign to the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati. Lenny's #Pizzeria was founded in 1953 and has been run by Frank Giordano and his family since 1983. Lenny’s Pizza became famous after it was used in a scene for the movie where the character played by John Travolta is seen ordering two slices of #pizza from Lenny’s, and eating them “double-decker” style, one piled on top of the other :pizza::pizza:. Park Delicatessen in Carroll Gardens was originally an Italian deli/grocery shop, which catered to the mainly Italian population in the neighborhood in the 1950s. As the Carroll Gardens neighborhood gentrified attracting many young professionals, the #delicatessen changed its focus offering many prepared meals. We love that it maintained its original #signage. This old-school #hardware store has been in business since 1939. Seymour Shepetin's brothers, who were all electricians, ran the shop until they all passed away while serving in World War II, leaving Seymour the business. We couldn't think of a more patriotic store :us:than this. Bright Food Shop in Chelsea was in business from 1938-2007. Upon closing, the original #neon sign which wrapped around the corner, was carefully removed and stored by the owners. Jay & Lloyd's Kosher Deli is a 3rd-generation Jewish #delicatessen that opened in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn in 1993. They are known for their home-cured corned beef and pastrami and their friendly service. #July4th, Nathan's Famous in Coney Island will hold its annual #hotdog eating contest. This iconic #frankfurter store opened 100 years ago as a small 5-foot long counter selling #hotdogs for a nickel. Nathan and Ida Handwerker, #Polish immigrants, started the business insisting on selling quality specially spiced franks which came in natural casings and freshly fried potatoes.
