Any day an owl flys overhead is a good day. Great to meet some new faces today and talk it up with some respectable birders this evening.

After a rather hopeless attempt taking potshots at distant short-eared owls, I began trudging back to the car. An unexpected bird suddenly flew up from the ground nearby, and I snatched this shot in the fading light.
Power Saw carving in Campbell River, along the walking path along the ocean shore. This carving was at least 10 ft. tall.
This was the shot I wanted but the lens I use and the light today just didnt grab focus quickly enough.

(The geotag placement indicates I was in Pennsylvania when this photo was taken. I was actually on the Maryland side of the border. Pennsylvania is only about a 40 minute drive from where I live.)

A short eared owl sitting on the road watching for mice to cross. The grass was too high for them to find their prey off the road so there were several of them along the road.
Anthony Murphy, aka "shorty" was born with no trunk or legs. This physical disability didn't stop him from living a full life in the Freak shows. He was quite adept with his two hands, as is shown by this photo. Shorty could balance on one hand and hold a pint of his favorite ale with the other.
