Do you know the differences between shave ice snow cones? Well, shave ice, as the name implies is made with shaved ice, and has been a Japanese dessert for a millennium or more. It become popular in Hawaii, and then around the world. A snow cone is made with crushed ice and was introduced to the world at the 1919 Texas State Fair.

Favors for a 1st Birthday Circus Party! Wonderful client who I LOVE to work with. She chose all the designs except the name plaque. I have been wanting to do one and thought it would be a fun touch. They will be having a big tent with clowns, snow cones and cotton candy. The elephant is there b/c he is cute!

The surf is still high in May this year at the North Shore of Oahu. Here surfers and Stand-up Paddlers are having fun riding the waves at Sunset Beach, Hawaii!!
Today is Thanksgiving in the United States. And while I am thankful for so many things – beginning with a steady job, a roof over my head, and food to eat – I am most thankful for the opportunity to share this life with an amazing woman who is not just both smarter and better looking than I am, but who inspires me to want to be the very best version of myself that I can possibly be.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I hope you get to spend it with those who matter to you most.
At the Ohana Festival today with the family Bo enjoyed some shave ice or for you mainlanders a "Snow Cone".:)
Part of the fair is of course the FOOD! You can get anything and everything deep fried and on a stick!!
In Haleʻiwa on Oahu's North Shore, Matsumoto's Shave Ice is a refreshing place for a tasty treat. It is one of Barack Obama's favorites when he is in Hawaii.

1/12th scale sculpture of Aoki's Shave Ice located in Haleiwa, Oahu, HI. 24" x 21.5" x 8". Business closed in November of 2013 due to area redevelopment. Building torn down in November 2014. So sad to lose such a great, and beloved, "Mom and Pop" storefront.

Yummmm!!! Hawaiian shave ice is like no other. This wonderful shave ice has a surprise ending- Ice Cream!
MisterMan gets snapper steamed in ginger and scallion broth with shoyu, mirin and sesame oil on a bed of spring greens. More garlic roasted asparagus, yellow pear tomatoes, and "shave ice" colored rice onigiri, just for hapa bento, who wanted shave ice in her bento yesterday -- this is for you hapa! It's rainbow flavor!

Mini caprese skewers with Japanese black tomatoes, basil and mozzarella flowers. More tomatoes tossed with kalamatas and sprinkled with feta complete the mixed culture section.
Fruit section has tangerines, Bing cherries, peaches, blueberries and kiwi.

Guava, lilikoi, and orange shave ice with lilikoi cheesecake ice cream in the middle and coconut cream on top, from Scandinavian Shave Ice. Every bit as tasty as it sounds.
