Thought to be older than Stonehenge, the Seven Sisters Round Barrow, Copt Hill, is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The name is thought to have originated from seven trees growing around the barrow The location is quite exposed with views across to the west and the distant Pennines.

The site was first excavated in 1877 by a local landowner and the remains of several bodies were found dating back to the Neolithic period. Other artifacts were dated to the Bronze Age and one item in particular, an urn, is now in the British Museum.

The Seven Sisters are a series of chalk cliffs by the English Channel. They form part of the South Downs in East Sussex, between the towns of Seaford and Eastbourne in southern England. They are within the Seven Sisters Country Park. They are the remnants of dry valleys in the chalk South Downs, which are gradually being eroded by the sea. (Wikipedia)

Beautiful white cliffs at sunset time.

An eerie place to be, beauty and a feeling of being very small in one place!

Location: Seven Weeks Poort in the Little Karoo

Description: Here is another (half-decent) composition from my recent visit to the spectacular Seven Weeks Poort (I just wish I'd pressed the shutter one second earlier).

The magnificent vertical rockfolds, reaching for the skies on both sides of the road, reflect the inconceivable forces of the volcanic eruptions millions of years ago, forming the chain of Cape ripple-like mountains. Often the converging slopes leave only a narrow pass, just broad enough for the Huis River to pass through, whilst the precipices of naked, distorted rock-faces tower like walls of a natural rampart, obscuring the sun.

I honestly couldn’t think of any better place to pedal my bicycle… can you?

Seven, the fourth prime number, is the lowest number that cannot be represented as the sum of the squares of three integers.

A seven-sided shape is a heptagon. The regular n-gons for n ≤ 6 can be constructed by compass and straightedge alone, but the regular heptagon cannot. Figurate numbers representing heptagons (including seven) are called heptagonal numbers. Seven is also a centered hexagonal number.

There are seven frieze groups, the groups consisting of symmetries of the plane whose group of translations is isomorphic to the group of integers.

Seven is the sum of any two opposite sides on a standard six-sided die. When rolling two standard six-sided dice, seven has a 6 in 36 (or 1/6) probability of being rolled (1–6, 6–1, 2–5, 5–2, 3–4, or 4–3), the greatest of any number. Spookily, There are seven fundamental types of catastrophes.

James Bond's secret agent number is 007, everyone may also remember the 1960 American western film The Magnificent Seven starring Yul Brynner. As a kid I remember reading 'The Secret Seven', name of a children's adventure book by Enid Blyton.

Deserving a mention, Blake's Seven was a BBC science fiction series that ran from 1978 to 1981 to rival Star Trek (and failed).

Nevada Fall by moonlight. Yosemite National Park, CA. This is the follow-up shot (from the same location) to "Moonlit Fairytale", one of my most popular shots on flickr, which I posted last year. I hope you enjoy it. Do you prefer one over the other? They're too different for me to decide, but maybe other people have opinions. The other one is harder-hitting; this one might take more than just a quick glance to sink in.

My 6D came in the mail today... can't wait to take it out for a joy ride!!!

This image was an exceptionally tricky blend of 4 shots for dynamic range, perspective, and depth of field. It's intended to be a bit grittier than my usual stuff, but if you've seen an older version of the shot, it reflected an issue in Lightroom that I believe I have resolved. The image is titled "Seven Hundred Twelve" because it is the shoot that killed my previous camera, and $712 was the repair cost which I could not afford.

Thanks very much to Dino Proctor (dinsy2) for great suggestions on this one. If you have any more, I'd love to hear them!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a good one!

Seven Bridges Road

Don Henley

There are stars

In the Southern sky

Southward as you go

There is moonlight

And moss in the trees

Down the Seven Bridges Road

Now I have loved you like a baby

Like some lonesome child

And I have loved you in a tame way

And I have loved you wild

Sometimes there's a part of me

Has to turn from here and go

Running like a child from these warm stars

Down the Seven Bridges Road

There are stars in the Southern sky

And if ever you decide

You should go

There is a taste of thyme sweetened honey

Down the Seven Bridges Road

Taken in Killarney National Park last week. I spotted this bridge in 2011 on my last trip to Ireland, and put it on my list of locations to shoot this time around. Really tranquil here. I was knee deep in water for a while, and for October in Ireland, it was actually quite pleasant. Thanks to my brothers Aidan and Derek for the company on this morning. Cheers Lads.

Hope you like "Seven Bridges Road". Cheers, Mike

* The seventh day, traditionally known as Rénrì (人日, the common man's birthday), the day when everyone grows one year older. In some overseas Chinese communities in Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia and Singapore, it is also the day when tossed raw fish salad, yusheng, is eaten for continued wealth and prosperity.

For many Chinese Buddhists, this is another day to avoid meat, the seventh day commemorating the birth of Sakra, lord of the devas in Buddhist cosmology who is analogous to the Jade Emperor.
