"What is straight? A line can be straight, or a street, but the human heart, oh, no, it's curved like a road through mountains.”
~ Tennessee Williams
A historic day for India for its sweet victory of love! LGBTQIA community of India! With apparently 1/5th of world population, supreme court striking colonial and regressive #section377 is momentous. Evolving and maturing, one step at a time! Well done, India! Freedom and dignity is the most basic right of everyone. The only queer people are those who don't love anybody. #loveislove

Barton Lidice Benes (1942-2012) - Souvenirs (1991). Detail. In the collection of Centro de Arte Manuel de Brito, Algés.
"Barton Lidice Beneš was born in Westwood, NJ, November 16, 1942, and graduated from Pratt Institute in New York.
Beneš transformed fragments of our throwaway culture into art that sometimes addressed taboo subjects and often used unconventional materials including cremation ashes, shells, bodily fluids, currency and shredded money, relics, celebrity artifacts and found objects.
"For Beneš, money was a rich palate of color and imagery, and a powerful symbol. Beneš's reliquaries, displays of thematically composed collectibles and relics, were celebrated in the book Curiosa (Abrams, 2002).
"Beneš was a warrior in the AIDS fight and served on the board of Visual AIDS (2003-2009). He chronicled his own HIV+ status in Lethal Weapons, a series of works created with his own blood. This exhibit toured Europe in the 1990's. He was featured in documentaries about his art, the AIDS epidemic and gay history (Gay Sex in the Seventies by Lovett Productions)." (visualaids.org)
Namaste all,
I am/was happy to be an equal rights activist. I am hoping the supreme court of India will soon give a good decision in favor of equal rights. I was Independent India's first open gay actor to be featured in the music video of an English song (of the Indian pop group Euphoria's) in 1996 in a first ever gay character shown on media. And later on I became the first open gay model to walk on the ramp in a transvestite character created by the designer Shalini Jaikaria's for her final collection fashion show in 1998 which triggered a morality based question raised in the Parliament of India due to section 377 of India.
I was 20 years old in 1996. Many people did their best at the time to break my back in every possible way. Oh dear my 20s and 30s were so very challenging.
I fought for the whole community and suffered heavily (on both fronts- personal and professional) the loss of a career based on acting and modeling just because I was an open gay man trying to make it in the acting and modeling field in India in the 1990s, in a respectable and equal manner. And let's not even talk about the 'personal front'.
It's high time now. A lot of sacrifice has gone into this momentous decision soon to be! Cross fingers- I have all of my faith resting on the Supreme court of India.!

“AIDS is already spreading in the country and if gay sex is legalized then people on the street would start indulging in such practices saying that the high court has given approval for it.
Legalizing it would send a wrong message to our youth” said additional solicitor general
