Where Am I??

invited my friend kate (who just got her first motorcycle!) to be a model at the Seattle flickr strobist meetup. i don't think she knew what she was getting into, but had fun doing it anyway. check out the pool for other shots of her (lots of fog and neon colours).

strobist info: i think i triggered a 430ex camera left w/ a cactus v2......

#1 explore. thanks :)

(Please Flattr this.)

I sold a print of this on ebay... It was my first attempt at selling there. It did decently. More prints can be made available, just contact me if you're interested.

In-camera triple exposure of a match, panning between exposures. For the Seattle Flickr "Multiple" challenge.

Lighting: MT-24EX, one lamp on left of lens, other mounted behind match facing upwards.

We got a chance to explore an art studio during our photostroll through SoDo. There was a really neat wall with radiating lines that just begged to serve as a backdrop for a self portrait. And that's exactly what I did.

Matildaben and Lindes both caught me in action.

Also added to Self Portrait Challenge's November theme of "Glam".

HDR Info: 3 exposures (-2,0,+2 EV) combined/tone mapped in Photomatix and edited in Photoshop CS3.

Taken during the Seattle Flickr Meetup Lunar Eclipse MSE at Kerry Park.

I have got to shoot more red stuff. Xpro'd red on Ektachrome looks so dope.

About 3 weeks ago, the Seattle Flickrites Meetup group hit the 1,000 members mark. To celebrate this milestone, we were asked to take a self-portrait. I've been slow to take this and upload it because I was sick at the time. Plus, I am lazy. :) But here it is, finally! And now I get to bug everyone else to do theirs!

I am so glad that I discovered the Seattle Meetup group through Flickr, and had the courage (or desperation) to attend my first few events. Since joining up last May, I've been to may gatherings, and have made some wonderful friends! So thanks, Seattle Flickrites!

Strobist info:

There were a lot of new faces at the Seattle Flickr Meetups photo stroll yesterday. One of them was Laura, seen here taking in for the first time the self-portrait antics of Danny that the regulars have all become familiar with. :-)

'twas a great stroll, with fine weather and fun times. I certainly enjoyed it, and so did all who I asked.

Oh yeah, and we got to wander around a little in this really cool building... more info on that to come.

P.S. Danny, when you see this, if you have a matching photo to post in the comments, please do. "Small" is probably ideal (certainly bigger than just thumbnail, I'm thinking.)

from a strobist garage shoot in seattle last year.

Concrete can create some cool textured backgrounds.

Strobist-ism: canon speedlight through white umbrella to camera left about head level. canon speedlight bare to camera right pointed at wall in background.

Another garage shoot for the Seattle Flickr Group. About 30-40 photographers with over 10 different set ups including green screen, 3 different motorsycles and a lot of models.

It was very windy when I took this shot. You should've seen me swaying back and forth with the balloons trying to get the right framing inside my LC-A's teeny-tiny finder while people were trying to walk past me. It was quite silly.

I didn't "get" several of the sculptures in the park, but I appreciate the fact that it's there... This one even had an explanatory placard, but it explained nothing. There were letters (S, O) on the ground beneath it.

Taken from a moving train, though much of the motion actually comes from me moving the camera about.

Shot partly just for fun, and partly for the SeattleFlickrFridayLongExposure challenge.

These photos were taken during the Woodland Park Zoo meetup in 2007. I thought it would be best to post these before the flickrites from the next meetup, which is tomorrow, starts posting. By posting these at this time I am essentially keeping my turnaround time to under a year… which is a good thing ;)

day 355 of 365.

Last night, between the hours of 5 pm and 12 am, I lost my wallet. It was in my bag, and then it suddenly wasn’t. I searched my car, and had my sister and friends look in their houses. I went back to the gas station where I had filled up that night. No one found a thing. It was lost.

So this afternoon, I was on the phone, trying to get through to an actual person to cancel my credit cards, and a message comes through on myspace. When I clicked on it, I was shocked to read the following: "What an odd way to get a hold of someone for this, but we found your wallet on a street." Someone had found my wallet. And googled me. And found my myspace page, and emailed me. No need to cancel credit cards, or get a new driver’s license, or figure out what other crap needs to be replaced. Hallelujah.

So, today this photo is dedicated to the power of prayer; to the decency of man; and not least of all, to myspace.

Also, congrats to Mrs. Reed for finishing her 365 day project today! Take a moment today and check out her set of wonderful self portraits! :)

ALSO! I finish my own 365 project in just 10 short days! If you are in the Seattle area, you should come out to the seattle flickr meetup group’s brews and views at hula hula next Thursday (Dec 27th) at 7 PM! That is my day 365, and I’d love for you all to celebrate with me. :)

This is simply an alternate edit of this image. (i.e. this is NOT my photograph.) Since it was placed under a creative commons license, I thought I'd post an edit of it, to illustrate some thoughts I had.

This edit is surely not the end-all-be-all for this image -- which, Kudos to Rob, is a nice capture -- it is simply an alternate take.

Note: I don't know if/how I can make flickr say so, without changing all my photos, but this image is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 license, despite anything flickr might tell you.

I was stopped by the crew on the Seattle-Bainbridge ferry after someone reported that I was "taking pictures of firefighting gear and things that normal tourists wouldn't." I explained that I just got my new lens!

At least, it wasn't as bad as the Ballard Locks incident, www.flickr.com/groups/seattlemeetups/discuss/721576039147..., or the Transit Tunnel, www.flickr.com/groups/seattle/discuss/25893/.

Seattle Flickrites gathered at Greenlake for some strobist fun

November Seattle flickr meetup - International District.

I went to a garage shoot put on by the Seattle Flickr Meetup Group on Saturday night. Rob was nice enough to show me the ropes of the Nikon CLS system and help me with some jumping shots.

I just love the expression on my face. Seriously, what have I done with my upper lip?

I like this best...

Seattle Flickrfan Meetup group hit 1000 members on Feb 26. We are documenting it.

Hmm... :-)

(It's actually pink sugar sprinkles in a Florence flask.

Strobist:

580EX M1/2 through white diffusion panel (part of a product shot box)

430EX M1/16, goboed by a piece of black foam core with a hole cut / punched into it.

The Florence flask sits on top of the black foam core with the hole.

Piece of black foam core masking taped to a box of fruit loops cereal as background / gobo. This piece is cut such that it barely fills the field of view of the camera side to side.

I then upped the saturation, vibrance and a little bit of clarity in Lightroom.

See here for the same shot without the 430EX in the picture, for darkfield illumination of the glass:

January Seattle flickr meetup - Holga Users Unite! (Holga shots coming soon - once film is developed).

day 363 of 365.

It only snowed for about 2 hours, but we did have a white christmas this year! nothing could be better. :) It was a fun day - hanging out with the family, eating, watching the kids chase each other around the house, and playing wii!

hope everyone had a wonderful christmas, and enjoys the rest of the christmas season!

I finish my 365 self portrait project on thursday! If you are in the Seattle area, you should come out to the seattle flickr meetup group’s brews and views at hula hula at 7 PM! That is my day 365, and I’d love for you all to celebrate with me. :)

Received some loaner gear from Olympus today to try out for a couple of weeks. This is the E-PL2 with Electronic Viewfinder and 75-300mm (equiv 150-600mm). If you'll be at the Alki stroll on Saturday or NW Trek next Saturday come and see me and you can check it out.
