Farewell Sea Odyssey - You've been a blast.

Uncle. The 50ft. tall giant uncle the Little Girl giant is in seach of in the true story about the Titanic

The Little Girl Giant, which took over Liverpool in 2012, is coming back to the city this July. Liverpool is to host the UK’s flagship 2014 World War One commemoration event – and as part of that, the giant puppets will be making a return.

The 30-foot-high puppet of a Little Girl - with her dog XOLO - walked through the city in front of almost a million people as she met up with her 50-foot-high uncle as part of the Titanic centenary celebrations. The event generated an estimated £32 million for the city. This year 2 million people are expected...it's going to be fantastic.

Travel bible Rough Guides names Liverpool the top UK city, and third in world for people to visit this year. Talking about the city, Rough Guide said: "What began with the gradual redevelopment of the Albert Dock area has evolved into a full-blown cultural renaissance. "Liverpool, once named the world’s pop music capital, has rediscovered its mojo. And guess what? It’s setting trends again. Visit in 2014 to experience the Liverpool Biennial, a ten-week-long contemporary arts festival over the summer that sees the city filled with works from around the world"

Do you think I've given enough reasons to visit the city this year?? :))

Moments after being woken himself, by Xolo (the Little Giant's dog) playing a suitably giant grammophone record, the Giant Uncle gently woke his niece.

Little Giant Girl passes by the three graces.

Princes Parade, Liverpool

"In April, the world's greatest street theatre company, Royal De Luxe, will bring their Little Girl Giant to Liverpool in one of the UK's most spectacular events. Sea Odyssey is a magical tale of love, loss and reunion played out on a gigantic scale. It will take place in key city spaces, moving across North Liverpool and the city centre, wowing the hundreds of thousands of people who are expected to descend on the city over the three days."

I took this to show some idea of scale of both the puppet and the crowds that thronged Liverpool 21.04.12

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the 'Titanic' disaster, last year (2012) for three whole days Liverpool staged what must be the most spectacular (and moving) event ever witnessed in our city, or arguably any other city :"Sea Odyssey". You can learn lots more and see videos and pictures @ the links below.

Sea Odyssey

Liverpool 21.04.12

An estimated 600,000 people witnessed an enthralling 23-mile long three-day spectacle that captured the heart of a city.

Sea Odyssey cost £1.5m, but the council predicts the economic benefits, both over the three days, and in the long term will far exceed the event expenditure.

Measuring in at 50ft - the Uncle (diver) was every bit a giant.

Italy is considered by many to be the early home of the marionette thanks to the influence of Roman puppetry. Xenophon and Plutarch refer to them. The Christian church used marionettes to perform morality plays. It is believed that the term marionette' emerged around 1600. In French. marionette = "little Mary". One of the first figures to be made into a marionette was the Virgin Mary, hence the name.

The Sea Odyssey Gian Spectacular brought maionetts and imagination to Liverpool.

Walking through Liverpool to find her uncle. The little Girl wanted her uncle to help find her father who sank with the Titanic.

The 50ft giant and his 30ft neice are at the centre of Sea Odyssey a massive free commemoration to mark the 100th anniversary of the Liverpool registered Titanic's sinking.

The story created by French street theatre company Royal de Luxe which was also responsible for the Sultans Elephant in London 2006 is based on a poignant letter from Liverpool schoolgirl Mary McMurray to her father, who was a first class steward on board the Titanic for her maiden voyage.

Sea Odyssey: Giant Spectacular was a three-day outdoor performance art event featuring giant marionettes, that took place inLiverpool, England, from 20 April to 22 April 2012.

It was designed and operated by French street theatre company Royal de Luxe, and featured three giants, the 9-metre (30-foot) tall Little Giant Girl, the 15-metre (50-foot) tall Giant Uncle, and the girl's dog, Xolo.

The event, staged to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic, was inspired by a letter written by a 10-year-old girl, May McMurray, in 1912 to her father William, a bedroom steward on the Titanic who did not survive the sinking. The letter did not arrive until after the Titanic sailed, and was returned to the sender and is now on display at Liverpool's Maritime Museum.
