#184 in interestingness (on 2008-08-18)

Zuidzijde is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee. It lies south of the village of Den Bommel and has 180 inhabitants. The water tower is no longer in service but can still be seen from afar. Another landmark is farmhouse De Lage Werf, one of the oldest buildings on the island which dates back to around 1640, when it was originally build as a country house.

Goeree-Overflakkee is the southernmost delta island of the province of South Holland, Netherlands.

In the spring, the island is known for it's tulip-fields in the most amazing colours. Every year a lot of, mostly Japanese, tourist will visit the island just for the tulips.

say "cheese" is an instruction used by photographers who are having difficulty getting their subject to smile. by saying "cheese", most people form their mouths into what appears to be a smile-like shape. additionally, the absurdity of saying "cheese" for no apparent reason can incite glee in some people. (wikki)

so when i tried the same thing on my kitty friend to whom you guys are pretty familiar by now.. and you know that how much she loves me...guess what pose i got....

Charles Bonaparte, a nephew of Napoleon, named the Say’s Phoebe after American naturalist Thomas Say, the first scientist to encounter the bird, at a site near Cañon City, Colorado, in 1819. During the same expedition, Say also collected 10 additional bird species. Despite finding several new bird species in his career, Say is perhaps better known as the “father of American entomology.”

...to 2013! See you in the new year =) Felt this image suited this day the best. Clouds rolling in to end the day. Sun setting on the horizon. Along with the fact that this viewpoint is called Inspiration Point; may we all continue to be inspired in 2014!

Taken at sunset, Inspiration Point, Mount Rainier National Park. Last of the cars leaving out of Paradise.

Enjoyed during a recent trip to Whistler. They were delicious!

Who says I can’t get stoned?

Turn off the lights and the telephone

Me in my house alone

Who says I can’t get stoned?

Who says I can’t be free?

From all of the things that I used to be

Re-write my history

Who says I can’t be free?..."

And I will stumble and fall

I'm still learning to love

Just starting to crawl

Say something, I'm giving up on you

I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you

Anywhere, I would've followed you

Say something, I'm giving up on you

And I will swallow my pride

You're the one that I love

And I'm saying goodbye

View in large size for awesome details of this wonderful capture.

The other day while I was walking along the river ruing about how close the blue heron was and how I spoilt my chance by letting a walking companion in on my secret and how she tripped and scared it away, I saw something in the bush by the path and this was what I saw :) a caterpillar posing for a shot!! Probably wanted to be a star on flickr, can't blame the guy for trying =)

Though caterpillars especially ones with so much hair creep me out, the camera loved it :)

Nature ALWAYS restores my faith in hope and in light at the end of the tunnel...

Listening to Sting singing If I ever lose my faith in you... lovely song...

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Yes, I put it all on one biscuit after!

So, a new blog post was published last night all about kingfishers ... just about everyone's nemesis bird ... am I right? Well, for me, I had always been able to catch them hovering just before a strike into the water below, but never had the opportunity like this.

This female belted kingfisher was quite beautiful indeed and gave me lots of looks, as it went about with its normal activities of feeding, bathing, preening, etc.

Note that this image was taken from the obscurity of a blind and the image was cropped.

I chose this image today because the beak of the bird appears to have a "dropped jaw" feel to it ... much like some of the news I heard and read out there yesterday.... hence the "Say What?" title. :-)
