All over Norway you'll find cabins like this, build to withstand the long and cold winter. This is a 5 hours drive from Oslo, fantastic to arrive at a place like this after a long drive like that :) Savalen seter is situated in the middle of the alpine slopes, perfect for a winter holiday. But also very nice in the summer :)

In the good old days, Savalbete in Savalen was a restplace for travelers going from Østerdalen and Trøndelag. Now it is used as a partyplace, perfect for groups in the range of 40-50 people. The view from this valley is just gorgeous.
I quickly snapped a few exposures before returning to the party :)

Drove 700km this weekend for one little party, but the party was worth the long trip. We had a lot of rain, but from time to time the trolls came out of the forest and gave us sceneries like this :)
Thanks

When it's all about rain, rain, rain on the road, it is a little bit rough to drive around in Norway, but then... a small gap in the clouds. Then you just have grab the camera and shoot the the mood in these fantastic mountains. I'm sure I saw a troll or two in the distance so I backed up slowly before they got irritated...
Thanks

Savalen, Norway, 16 January 2016.
A cold and sunny day by the lake. Temp as low as -32C the night before!
When the sun came out for a moment the valley exploded with reflections from thousands of waterdrops, then you have to be ready with the camera :)

Simon Trøan in User Services is the man behind this week's photo:
”The photo is from the archive of the Høyfjellskommisjon (Mountain Commission), which operated from 1908 to 1953. Their main task was to determine the boundaries of the common land, but the commission also delivered some judgments about ownership and rights of use. The Mountain Commission considered 26 districts in southern Norway, and executed hearings and site visits. The archive contains the Commission's judgments, rulings and negotiations, and is organized by the various fields. Much of this is also printed in the series ”Høyfjellskommisjonens kjennelser og forhandlinger” (”The Mountain Commission rulings and negotiations”).
The archive also contains extensive photographic material. The picture I have chosen is from the summer mountain pasture Garvikåsen at Savalen in Alvdal municipality. Here we have a cottage, and my family has lived close by since the 1780's, in the village Strålsjøåsen. It was the work in the Rødal mine that built the foundation for the settlement here. The author Arne Garborg lived at Kolbotn in Strålsjøåsen in the period 1887-1896. He sought a sanctuary for mind and body. Each summer from 1893 to 1900, the painter Harriet Backer was also a regular guest in Strålsjøåsen. She has painted many scenes from the area. "
