A windmill out in a field south of Norborne Missouri at Sunset. If you look along the horizon you can make out the grain elevator at Hardin Missouri.
In the aftermath of the 2007-09 recession, the economic picture in rural areas has been mixed, according to a recent U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Economic Research Service (ERS) report.
We got off on some back roads and found this sort of spooky area. Don't ask me where it was exactly, but I would say it was about ten miles West of Geneva.

This historic barn was built in the late 1800s and was found in the heart of the Midwest in rural Illinois. To me, it represents a time gone by when perhaps life was simpler and people worked with their hands to make a living. Textures by Kim Klassen.

This is the Benton City Schoolhouse where my Great Uncle Roy J. Etheridge went to school as a child. There is a historical marker down the road that tells about the area. It can be found here: www.cemeteries-of-tx.com/Etx/Atascosa/cemetery/benton.htm
In the far western part of the state, road base rock is just right below the surface. This is a hill right behind a farmer's house. He scrapes it down with a backhoe and sells by the truck load.
This farm had been handed down through many generations of the Hankey family.

A group of sea gulls, appearing almost all white were circling each other above Speedwell Lake in a dance of flight. They stood out in stark contrast with the brown of the wooded hillside in early spring.
