I'm back from a "guycation" in rural Upstate New York. It was fun hanging out in the woods with old buddies with cool nicknames like "Moose" and (pictured above) "Smoke." No, I won't tell you my nickname :) I hope to catch on your photostreams soon!
It wasn't that long ago when a large mailbox was the standard for efficiency when it came to receiving information and correspondence. Now days, information efficiency is measured in speed and compactness. It's funny to think that my entire laptop computer, containing enough information to fill these mailboxes for the next thousand years, if it were in paper form, would fit neatly inside.

It was drizzling slightly and this seemed to be a good time to take a photo of the fall foliage. View large. Explore #62. Two Explores in one day.
I really don't know whose truck it is I just fell in love with the scene and the morning glories growing in it! I went back a couple months later to get some shots and it was gone.
Lake Sacandaga is a huge man made reservoir, 29 miles long with 125 miles of shoreline. The Sacandaga Valley was flooded in 1930 and a dozen or so small hamlets were totally destroyed by the flooding. The reservoir provides water for people all the way down to New York City. The state controls the water levels which has caused friction with property owners along the shores. The lake has just about every fresh water fish found in the northern United States. In 1940, the world record brown trout was caught from this lake (the record has since been broken). Many tourists visit the lake each summer for boating, fishing, and swimming. Most people in the area just refer to it as "The Big Lake." The drive around the lake is spectacular, especially in the Fall. This photo was taken from the Batchellerville Bridge, Edinburg, NY. This spot is about 12 miles from my property in Benson. I often drove over this bridge to go to the old fashioned country store on the other side, but also to go over to Saratoga.
This link is fantastic and has old photos taken before the valley was flooded.
