The Pioneer Family Memorial, created by Trygve Rovelstad, a native of Elgin Illinois, depicts a frontier guide, husband, wife with baby and a youth arriving at the site of the future city of Elgin.

By lifelong Elgin resident, Trygve A. Rovelstad. Besides being a renown sculptor, he also designed medals for the U.S. War Department, including the Combat Infantryman Badge, Legion of Merit and Bronze Star...among others.
