I wanted to use this picture of a sculpture something more so The Dictionary of Image came to mind.

I haven't done an entry for a while.....

Taken (surreptitiously) at Manchester Art Gallery. Wild man by Ron Mueck.

Ron Muek makes hyper-real sculptures that have odd scale. This chap is about 10 feet tall.. Ron Mueck began his career as a model maker and puppeteer working on shows such as Sesame Street, and on films including Labyrinth.

María Gómez.

I posted a photo of this 7 years ago but thought it was worthy of revisiting which I did on a recent visit to Brisbane GOMA.

Hyper-realist sculptor Ron Mueck's In Bed. A middle-aged woman lies gazing into the distance. Her expression is one of slight anxiety.

While his work is lifelike, it is not life-size, being either bigger or smaller than the subject. In earlier years he mostly used fibreglass, while recently he has been working with silicone as it allows greater flexibility for shaping body parts and implanting hair.

Created for The Dictionary of Image

If this sculpture stood up it would be almost 4 metres tall.

unless you're going to get to the Brooklyn Museum to see the Ron Mueck exhibit.

oh, this was definitely a sneaky unauthorized photo, but check out this awesome set of behind the scenes shots of the installation.

Ron Mueck - Australia born 1958, works in England 1986–

Inspired by the complex biological structure of the human skull – which the artist considers beautiful and extraordinary – Ron Mueck’s new work Mass, 2016–17, celebrates a form that links us as a species. Mass is also a sombre study of mortality, and comprising 100 individual human skulls it calls to mind iconic images of massed remains in the Paris catacombs as well as the documentation of contemporary human atrocities in Cambodia, Rwanda, Srebrenica and Iraq. The skull has been a potent symbol within the art of virtually all cultures and religions, not least the Western history of art, including in Dutch still-life painting and the vanitas painting genre of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries which served as a reminder of the transience of life. Not something you see every day...

Taken in the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC (on loan from the Hirschorn at the time, I think). i love the fact this is my most viewed picture... could it be the title, or does the thumbnail just intrigue people?

I also love the fact that you walk into the room through an archway to the left of this picture, so he's sat in the corner on your left as you walk in - huge and silent in a bare white room...

I'm fairly sure he's eavesdropping on their conversation, too.

Australians are famous for being a laid back group of people. Not to be confused with Ron Muecks famous sculpture Dead Dad which was the launcing pad for his recognition as a sculpture.

Dead dad was a hyper-realistic sculpture of Mueck’s dead father, naked, lying on the floor. This extraordinary work had huge emotional power, and many visitors remembered it well.

Dead Dad is a silicone and mixed media sculpture of the corpse of Mueck's father reduced to about two thirds of its natural scale. It is the only work of Mueck's that uses his own hair for the finished product.

It was almost impossible to get a shot of this without people walking in the background, and I was almost lying on the floor for at least 5 minutes before I gave up, and made them go away electronically.
