A disused roller coaster in Los Angeles

The old roller skates found in the garage didn't fit me (sadly because they were vintage-y and all worn out). So.. I got a new pair and what's great is that the ones in the garage fit my daughter so we made pom-poms :) HBM!!

I promise.. no more Rollers after this one. But I just couldn't resist photographing these wonderful birds whenever I got the chance. Hans is só fed up with Rollers, he swears that next time we'll ever go to Africa, he'll bring a shotgun....:-)

(just kidding..)

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!

European Roller, Hungary

I love the colours on these lilac breasted rollers. This one made a wonderful subject as it posed for me for quite a while.

Meudon, juin 2014. I was riding by bike near this factory when i saw these young ladies... :)

as seen at RollerGirl.ca (your friendly derby owned roller skate shop),185 east 11th Ave at Main Street, Vancouver

This handsome Roller was tirelessly fetching an abundance of insects of all shapes & sizes, for it's hungry chicks.

I've just noticed that it's chosen prey item here is a Silver Y Moth, which is a familiar sight in UK gardens. Most often seen flitting around the flower beds in the late afternoon, during the Summer months (the moth, not the Roller).

Hungary - June 2017.

the european winter correspond to the summer season in south africa.this is not the best season for photographic safari as the animals are spreaded everywhere and the light is rarely good.but this is the season you can find birds with marvellous breeding feathers.lilac breasted roller(coracias caudatus) ,kruger n.p.south africa....IT ...il nostro inverno corrisponde all'estate sudafricana.non è il periodo ideale per i classici safari.troppa vegetazione, acqua ovunque, luce difficilmente ideale.però è il periodo in cui gli uccelli sfoggiano un piumaggio bellissimo.kruger national park.scatto dall'auto

Summer... France...Nice... Hotel Negresco.

Inaugurated in 1913, and listed as a National Historic Monument, this Belle Époque palace is located on the seafront promenade overlooking the Bay of Angels. Hotel furnished throughout with a unique collection of antiques and contemporary works of art.

Among others these sculptures paid my attention. They were standing and moving in a same time, rolling somewhere... The spanish sculptor Franck R. Tassi offers a representation of a mixture of various elements resulting from his concern about the relation of man in front of the universe, the society or technology. His style of expression shows man as creator as well as victim and often prisonner of his technology and even slave of his own inventions... It's from the official description of his sculptures Mechanic Dancer (Cyborg M.M.) and Jeanne De Loulu...

I use here my shots of these sculptures and an interior of Hotel Negresco to define the word "roller" as a symbol of our life. We all run, move, roll somewhere... We don't know where we go... Tomorrow is unpredictable but we're rolling there, we all are the Rollers...

European Roller, Hungary

The Indian Roller (Coracias benghalensis), was formerly locally called the Blue Jay, a misnomer. It is a member of the roller family of birds which breeds in tropical southern Asia from Iraq to Thailand. It is not migratory, but undertakes some seasonal movements.

The Indian Roller is a stocky bird, the size of a Jackdaw at 30-34cm. It has a warm brown back, lilac breast and face, and blue crown, wings, tail and belly. Sexes are similar, but the juvenile is a drabber version of the adult. The Southeast Asian race C. b. affinis has a green back and purple underparts.

Indian Roller is striking in its strong direct flight, with the brilliant blues of the wings contrasting with the brown back.

This is a bird of warm open country with some trees. These rollers often perch prominently on trees, posts or overhead wires, like giant shrikes, whilst watching for the large insects, lizards and frogs that they eat. They will follow tractors for disturbed invertebrates, and dash into the smoke of a forest fire on a similar mission. They are fearless and will dive and roll at humans and other intruders.

The display of this bird is a lapwing-like display, with the twists and turns that give this species its English name. It nests in a lined hole in a tree or building, and lays about 3-5 eggs.

The call of Indian Roller is a harsh crow-like chack sound. Also makes a variety of other sounds including a metallic boink calls. Especially vociferous during the breeding season.

Indian roller has been given the status of state bird for Indian states of Karnataka, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh

lilac breasted roller in the kruger park

The European roller (Coracias garrulus) is the only species in the roller family that breeds in Europe. Here photographed in the Kruger National Park, South Africa.

As we were driving along a country road we spotted this Roller on a derelict building, so it was another shot from my "mobile hide"! Again, it was on my wife's side of the car.......... We never seem to see them in a place where I can get out of the car and sneak up on them!

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fav my images.

Saw this Roller perched in a tree as we were driving past. I pulled up by the side of the road but it was on the passenger side so I had to manoeuvre my camera past my wife and twist round into a position to take the shot. Lol.

It only posed long enough for this shot and then flew off!

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fav my images.
