Located in Baltic, Connecticut - a village within the town of Sprague, Connecticut – USA.
This two-story flatiron-style building was a humble forerunner to the famous twenty-two-story “Flatiron Building” constructed four years later in New York City. A building often considered the most iconic early skyscraper ever built.

This provincial park, established in 1977, was named after the great conservationist Roderick Haig-Brown. Recently it was renamed Tsutswecw Park.

As you head along the main A87 this memorial is beside the road, not far from the junction that would take you to Invergarry. I have passed this memorial many times, and have stopped and looked and wondered, this time I stopped and took some details, this is what it says “At this spot in 1746 died Roderick MacKenzie. An officer in the army of Prince Charles Edward Stuart of the same size and of similar resemblance to his royal prince, when surrounded and overpowered by the troops of the Duke of Cumberland gallantly died attempting to save his fugitive leader from further pursuit.”
I knew about this monument and about the story, I am now humbled to think of what went on here all these years ago, quite remarkable. The monument is well looked after and it is good to see some information relating to the incident.
