Well, I'm actually a little too close to the river - almost a river swim!!

Crossing the Brazeau River at Nigel Pass along the South Boundary Trail in Jasper National Park, Canada. Hiking upstream from here will take you to the headwaters of the Brazeau River and Cataract Pass.

The Kilchis River is a stream, about 14 miles long, near the coast of northwest Oregon draining into Tillamook Bay. This is the place to go if you're into fishing for huge Chinook salmon or whitewater kayaking, rafting.

This river runs through Estes Park, Colorado.

While it was an overcast day, 17˚C, windy, with sporadic light rain, I would not be deterred from taking photos, as it is still a beautiful location.

 

The challenge is the priority for Depth of Field, yet getting a proper exposure on such a gloomy day and using a Shutter Speed that would stop-action of the trees and leaves fluttering in the wind, so I increased ISO by the amount that would yield that. Also. the Nikon 28mm f/1.4D made this possible. Selecting the right lens is important. There were wires overhead. As I wanted more river view and less sky, no problem. I merely angled the lens downward, toward the river, checking the rare metal lens hood was firmly attached.

 

Then, there were processing challenges . . . Color Noise in the water. Three different Noise reduction programs could not deliver. I made a Monochrome rendering of the image, then overlaid one upon the other and made the percentage just enough to kill the color noise in the water. In Nikon's Capture NX2, I re-saturated. There was a bit more to it than that, but that gives you an idea.

Taken at the start of a fun, if slightly terrifying, walk up near Ballater in Scotland.

Here is a small river pass I crossed in my car. There were quite a few rocks in the stream and a pretty good current as well!
