The lifeblood of the NSW outback, beautiful reflections along this side tributary to the Darling River belies the truth of a stagnant dying river. The result of both long term upstream drought and controversial water use policies, the Darling stopped flowing in 2016 south of Wilcannia and the once great Menindee Lakes dried up. Like sentinels from another age, the ancient Red River gums that line the banks are in many cases over 800 years old. Kinchega National Park, Outback New South Wales, Australia.

To the south of the Isle of Mull, West Scotland, just before the Coladoir river flows into Loch Scridain. A magical valley.

After a day of storms, I headed north with a weather report promising sun, and a hope that the foliage would still be good. As the front moved through, the winds were all at high altitudes, so while I was planted in relative calm, the show in the sky moved very rapidly. The morning sun finally cleared the ridges behind me, only to be obscured by clouds moving so fast that the landscape was intermittently in shadow and light and back again. I shot several series as different parts of the scene were spotlighted; this particular was my favorite, color highlighting the center and creating a glow seemingly behind the forest on either bank while the foreground chilled in shadow. The Ausable River is like a meadow stream in this section, broad and slow, it's flatness a wonderful mirror of the world, the dark water reflecting the light from without. Sometimes I feel the same, but the chiaroscuro is within coming out, not a reflection, but a force of it's own. Or is it? I bask in shadow and light.

The river Kennet is a relatively small tributary to the Thames, running through Reading and notably across the Oracle mall. Normally well inside those inner bannisters, with hardly enough room for two boats to pass in opposite ways. Now a vast river - or lake - has covered the amphitheatre and children's playground...

My fall trip to Yosemite looked really promising…fresh snow (although not much) the night before, and potential for a clearing storm at tunnel view. Got skunked at tunnel view for the 3rd time in a row and it rained for most of the evening. Half Dome was popping in and out of the clouds at this scene, as more rain started to come down lightly on the Merced River. I keep digging out fall images, but it doesn't seem like winter has started anyhow;-) Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!
taken during my sojourn in Pisa, where I had just taken a 3 hour train ride from Florence, en route to Milan. On my way to see the leaning tower, I crossed the famous Arno river, which flows from Florence through Pisa and eventually into the Tyrrhenian Sea.
