"The Jacka" was an American rapper from Pittsburg, California. Born Dominick Newton in 1977, he converted to Islam and changed his name to Shaheed Akbar. He started his career as one of "C-Bo's Mob Figaz". The group's first album, released in 1999, was a minor hit and sold over 160,000 copies. Akbar also owned his own label, "The Artist Records". In February, 2015, the Jacka......at 37 years old.....was fatally shot by an unidentified gunman in East Oakland, California.

On the 27th of October 1989 I photographed DE LA SOUL in Paradiso Amsterdam. They just released their fantastic debut album: ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ and it might have even been their first European tour.
This is the first time I show these photographs. A pity only ten fit. I was an art student back then. I remember I could freely move in front of the stage since it was not that crowded at all. I only had only two black and white 35MM films in my pocket. One for De La Soul and the other one I kept for Henry Rollins the next day. I developed and pushed the films myself in the bathtub at home and then they stayed 34 years in a sleeve for negatives.

Tupac Amaru Shakur (/ˈtuːpɑːk ʃəˈkʊər/ TOO-pahk shə-KOOR;[1] born Lesane Parish Crooks; June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), also known by his stage names 2Pac, Makaveli, and Pac, was an American rapper, record producer, actor, and poet.[2][not in citation given] As of 2007, Shakur has sold over 75 million records worldwide.[3] His double disc albums All Eyez on Me and his Greatest Hits are among the best-selling albums in the United States.[4] He has been listed and ranked as one of the greatest artists of all time by many publications, including Rolling Stone, which ranked him 86th on its list of The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[5] He is consistently ranked as one of the greatest and most influential rappers of all time.[6] On April 7, 2017, Shakur was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[7]
Shakur began his career as a roadie, backup dancer, and MC for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground, eventually branching off as a solo artist.[8][9][10] Most of the themes in Shakur's songs revolved around the violence and hardship in inner cities, racism, and other social problems. Both of his parents and several other people in his family were members of the Black Panther Party, whose ideals were reflected in his songs. During the latter part of his career, Shakur was a vocal participant during the East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry, becoming involved in conflicts with other rappers, producers, and record-label staff members, most notably The Notorious B.I.G. and the label Bad Boy Records.[11]
On September 7, 1996, Shakur was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Koval Lane in Las Vegas, Nevada.[12] He was taken to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, where he died six days later.[13]

I used three types of pencils : H2 , HB , B5 all of them are noticeable in the different shadings.
The Paper that I used is light / rough white paper it really helped giving all the effects needed.

People said Rap music wouldn’t last and was just a fad. I was one of those who thought it was going to be around for a long time. I never thought it would have taken over the music world the way it did. I still listen to Rap music as a 37 year old, mostly the late 80’s early 90’s. I think those were the best years for Rap music but that’s just my opinion. Rap music had more talent when it was more of an underground art form. I was shocked I heard a Old School Rap group as a background beat in a kids show (I think it was the Sprout channel playing A tribe Called Quest during birthday wishes).
I remember taking the train from a suburb of Boston into Downtown Crossing and getting the newest tape almost every Tuesday. It’s about a 40 minute trip in so you could rock last weeks tape till you picked up the latest release to rock it on the way home. After a few weeks of heading into the city you had enough material to make a mix tape of all the top joints. You would be in school trading these tapes to listen to while you were in school.
I must say all that is HISTORY with the digital age. It’s such a sad thing that kids don’t get to flip through vinyl, tape or even cd’s. I can’t begin to tell you how many things I purchased while I flipped through the racks of music, some good some bad. You would make it a half day thing running from record store to record store to find something because not all stores had extensive Rap selections. If you wanted some to cheap out you could go to the local used music store and take a lot of chances on music for short money.
This is a two part history picture. First is the brief history of the early days of Rap music and the other is the fact that the cassette tape is "history" as afr as a source of music entertainment.
