entre uma das 10 praias mais belas do mundo, os moais se destacam.

The Rapanui women were believed to be very beautiful and, as is often the case, extremely vain. This long suppressed image of a group of moai may go a long way to explaining the real reason why the ancient inhabitants of Easter Island died out.

Created for the 37th Weekly Contest on Man Ray: Tin Drum Head but finished too late to compete. (Alas! I must pay more attention to deadlines!)

.....Geologically referred to as a “sea stack”, Shag Rock is a volcanic remnant of coastal erosion processes that have been underway for a long time.

Rapanui means the great sternpost. It stands at the entrance of the Heathcote/Avon estuary guiding the way into the estuary. It is one of the oldest landmarks of the South Island. This area was once rich in shellfish, flatfish and birdlife and was a famous source of eels, waterfowl, and various types of harakeke (native flax).

Ahu Tongariki site is the largest Ahu on Rapa Nui/Easter Island

Model: Laurie my wife.

It is one of the most isolated islands in the world but 1200 years ago a double-hulled canoe filled with seafarers from a distant culture landed upon its shores. Over the centuries that followed a remarkable society developed in isolation on the island. For reasons still unknown they began carving giant statues out of volcanic rock. These monuments, known, as "moai" are some of the most incredible ancient relics ever discovered. The people of Easter Island called themselves the Rapa Nui. Where did they come from and why did they disappear? Science has learned much about the enigma of Easter Island and has put to rest some of the more bizarre theories, but questions and controversies remain. Go and Explore this site to get your own conclusions of the island's history.

I can't believe I carried this to the most remote spot on earth for you...along with your tennis shoes to throw over an electrical line, which I just couldn't bring myself to do...funny as it would have been.

Ahu Tahai, Hanga Roa.

I know the image may not be the best quality (it's a major crop that is obviously unrealistic in color, contrast, etc.), but it is a good overview of Easter Island as a whole... from a certain perspective.

El poema que se está haciendo

Tocar formas suaves y ondulantes

Una casa frente al mar

Una mujer mujer

Un libro incomprensible

Una noche de amor, antes de un eclipse de sol total.

Dormirse mientras una mano

acaricia la cabeza

Enseñar el amor a una mujer

nacida para el amor
