The Rule is that I have to Answer 5 Questions:

>> landscape, cityscape, bokeh... almost everything... anything that I find interesting...
2. What I like to photograph the least?
>> SPs...haha... crazy huh? but it's true... if I'm running out of photos to share then I'll do SP and also for this 52 weeks project... haha
3. Photography Peeves
>> expensive hobby and SLRs are heavy... haha...
4. What I admire from other photographers?
>> photographers that have unique styles, creativity and not afraid to do experiments.
5. What I like to learn better?
>> portrait, strobist and advance landscape photography...=D

Looking at the Transamerica Pyramid from Coit Tower. Sometimes it's pretty great to do the ultra-tourist thing.
I hope everyone is enjoying their Monday

Still working to refine the workflow, trying to find the right combination of techniques and texture blends and masks to create that amazing "look" the old Dutch Masters had in their still life paintings. Almost every day I walk past an art dealer that specializes in still life paintings and I finally decided to try my hand using photographic and PhotoShop tools. One of the things I noticed was that the compositions tended to be fairly simple and the backgrounds often very dark. The light source was definitely window light without a lot of shadow fill, yet the colors seem to have an internal life and glow.

I was trying to add a layer to make it look totally awesome and it would not work! So just do me a favor and imagine.. its got a totally rad texture working on it!! ohh yeah! Doesnt it look great!
Ive been waiting for a good reason to wear this suit! I love it!!
I miss Florida. =(

Reflects a new direction I am exploring...formal still life with an "old masters" look. Still recognizably photographic but with classic lighting and texture blends. Using a giant 7' light box that simulates window light as the primary source and then a simple card fill. Shot with a D3X and the 85mm PC-E to get maximum sharpness.
I used one of the Really Rad texture overlays to achieve part of the effect but then created layer masks to keep the effect largely on the background and off the subject.
Of course part of the effect is old bronze plate and vessels, which I scrounged from thrift shops.
This is an experiment. Didn't have anything particular in mind, just wanted to try a bunch of different layer and texture effects. Even threw in a text layer using some "greeked" text, which was an adventure in itself (turns out there are web sites that can generate greeked text, which I then copied and pasted into Word and then played around with different size and font options).
Wound up with 13 layers and since the starting point was a D3X capture the final stack was 2.2 Gigabytes! Took forever to save.
Even after a dozen layers I wasn't happy with the image and then decided to run it through nik's Color Efex 2.0 and used the Bleach Bypass filter on the background. That gave me the faded/worn look I really wanted to finish off the project.
Used several Flypaper Textures on separate layers, Totally Rad Textures and a couple Graphic Authority layers and masks. The photo of the cicada is mine.
Playing around with different backgrounds and blends. This one features a combination of a handpainted background with a Totally Rad texture overlay and then a treatment with Topaz Simplify. The table top is a piece of broken marble I scored from a custom fireplace store for $25.

I leave in 3 days for vacation to Riviera Maya Mexico! I was packing my suitcase tonight and my dog fits perfectly. :) Her face in this shot even says "please don't leave me!" I would bring her if I could though!
Happy Saturday!
Continuing to refine the "Old Master" look. The background is handpainted. It is actually just a piece of foam core that I painted, in successive layers, with different shades of yellow, orange, ochre and brown. It actually photographs kind of flat but the surface texture really pops when I use the Viveza 2 Structure slider at 80%. I then overlay one of the Totally Rad texture filters to the background using a hand painted layer mask. Portions of the image are darkened using gradient layer masks.
Am really pleased with the way the candle flames turned out. They look like real flames without burning out. To get the depth of field I need, especially shooting with the Nikon 85mm PC-E lens, I have to stop down to f/36. The light source is a 7' umbrella but even using a 2400 watt second pack it takes six pops to get enough light. I set the Nikon D3X for multiple exposures and shoot at 1/45th of a second. So the flames are actually a six-shot composite.
I've approached this series as a personal project in studio problem solving and I learn something on each successive image.
It has also made me really explore some of the D3X's capabilities. For instance, the PC-E lens is manual focus so I have used LiveView and the ability to expand the image on the LCD screen to do critical focusing.
I'm intrigued by the determination of Nature to
overcome the destruction of man....

So ... I'm a little late on uploading ... but I have to give proper tribute to Vic, aka WHEREISHERE, who finished his 365 last week.
It has been so interesting to watch Vic grow during the second half of his 365 (which is when I started following him). He has mastered expressive faces, grungy processing, sexy portraits (with his hottie wife Rachel), and just general awesomeness.
In addition to all that, he's a great contact who leaves thoughtful comments, and just generally a great guy. :)
So here is my best Victor face, with face paint, and a rad texture made by Vic himself.
Oh, and a random funny story about this photo - I got all the face paint on, then went to get my camera only to find that I had left it in my car ... which was parked on the street in front of our house. Not only was my neighbor outside, but a bunch of maintenance guys were working on the unit across from us. So, I threw on a hoodie and RAN out the back door to my car in hopes that no one would see me. Annoying at the time, but kind of funny now. :)
ANYWAY! Congrats again, Vic!
I got the rad texture from here! Thank you so much!!!

I got to play in my friend's backyard today. Practiced with my fiddy on some promising and pretty crocus and other hopeful signs of spring. If I get a chance to review and process them I shall post.
From a quick first glance, I also got some pretty awesome shots at the car wash that may make some rad textures/overlays. Stay tuned.
The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind: the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down: the LORD loveth the righteous:
The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.
The LORD shall reign for ever, even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the LORD.

Alright, the failed pose here was inspired by Gemma Louise Plumton's 13/365. Gosh I looooovvve her pose. I tried so many times to perfect it(on my dresser), but mind you, it was 2:00am and I reallllllly did not want to fall. This is what came of this late night inspiration. Karla is comming over tomorrow and since my pentax came yesterday, we're going on a photo walk and I shall try again! Also thank you ~Essence of a Dream for posting this rad texture.
Shot on a point and shoot canon in my December trip, thought it had a rad texture for an autofocus film camera.
